I found out a more serious problem, my manifold has snapped, and the heat wrapping is keeping the noise down

Standard manifold, downpipe and centre section here we come

just back from my cscs card test, 87db happens to be the upper limit for working on a construction site. 80db is when ear defenders become acceptable and 85db is when ear defenders are compulsory so on that note...87 seems very excessive and cant be right :S is it really louder on idle than a pneumatic drill?

well i did say that i cant take my phone DB meter to be 100% accurate

The manifold was fucked, cracked both pipes on the "2-1" section so thats in the bin. And due to the fact it is longer then a standard manifold, i couldn't get a standard centre section on with it anyway

Trying to find a standard manifold was like trying to find rocking horse shit but i managed to find one of a mfi cabby being broken,and i got the downpipe and manifold for £30

Its got a standard centre section now, but mating that to the ashley backbox was an utter bastard.

It's really quiet now you can barely here it in the car, and a point the tappets take over just needs the centre join repasting, but it was getting late last night, so we left it, and tbh, i cant notice anything just my mate who runs the kwik fit said that it needed doing and i was like really?

But on the plus side, i can drive around without it intruding like a bitch and its a nice cruiser now

And rob, the comedian, took the coil of my ignition coil as a laugh then put it back on, but clearly not properly, as it started in kwik fit (at 8 30pm!) and i reversed out, then it died. Wouldnt restart for shit, then found it had no spark. i was like it started a min ago! Then Rob fessed up about the coil and he reattached it again and it started straight up . As a result, the brand new one from robs old s1 is being fitted

A couple of new issues:

Drivers side CV boot needs changing as its split
Parts of the waxoyl are peeling off may buy a 1L do it yourself kit and do that!

I still would have fixed the manifold and kept the exhaust as it was

Had mine idling at work this morning to get the ice off the car.. (my gear linkage had frozen ) and it was loud, but not stupidly loud at idle.. I have also found that at 4500 revs its quieter, so it might be aloud on track days I want a proper sound test on it tho

Ain't got the room for a project car

But that would be a novelty, not spending any money on a car just maintaining and driving it

If i decide to keep it long term i can see me going overboard by getting a complete rewaxoyl, store the xr3i seats until sale, get a standard rocker cover if i can, fit the standard wiper motor i have, get standard strut tops, was tempted by alloys but i think i'll just leave it, and fix the niggly problems i have (rear wiper, chipped windscreen, cv boot) but we'll see

Like i say its never missed a beat, never failed on me, never let me down, so in that sense i'd be mad to sell it , just had to change the leaky rear lights and 2 rear tyres. All the rest has been on things i have changed like the K+N panel filter.

Now its quiet, its a smooth cruiser they only thing is i am getting used to the straight line speed of it but i guess thats not a major issue

Rent a garage and store it, its far to good to mod Standard is the way forward
