I am going to reverse this now instead of saying what is best I am going to ask what you want out of the next car and I will offer what I think are good for the job.

well more then anything, i have fancied both for a while and i know i can insure both cheaply, and both will be cheaper to run then the ST

it's not the whole ford thing, i just fancy one of these

leaning more towards a puma

as if i get what i want for the ST and spend around £2500-£3000 on a puma, leaves me with £2k to stick in the savings pot

How much do FRP's go for these days?

mint ones at least £6k no chance. want to spend upto £3k and save the rest

and i want something cheaper to run, a higher tuned 1.7 would not be the way to go!

The ZS. Its more attractive for a start
You have a mate as well so if you were eager for cheap power it would take a couple hours and about £300 for a puma engine in it.
You can pick them up at a good price for good condition ones now as well.

and percy, yes i am fully aware of that just think of this as a cheaper itch to scratch!

i think looking at N/A 1.6 + is the wrong way to go if your looking for economy and value, after all a ZS is going to do roughly 38mpg average

Whereas your ST did about 30mpg? average

Standard 1700 puma does about the same as the ZS

Got more info on what sort of performance your after and what mpg improvement?

diesel is like admitting defeat and i am old before my time

the st is hard work on the motorway, and it says it does 32mpg, but does it fuck

70 in st = 3500rpm and its 3000rpm in a ZS or a puma, so its not so hard work on the motorway which i use everyday!

8mpg improvement over 10 gallons = 80 miles per tank which is nearly a 1/3 of a tank in the ST

I got 41mpg out of my ZS driving like a granny, mixture of motorway and town driving

yeah you can drive one fast and enjoy one. its still looks girly

there are a few around agreed but all the people who own hem are nice, plenty of meets and help etc.

either would be hard to keep standard althoughmine was for 6 months and it was still brilliant. cant beat the engine growl

up to you in the end, you seem more set on a puma ?
