i really like those 190 celicas, the rev like mad and sound wicked when they hit lift!

liking what you have done to your celica as well mate, it looks sweet and will be brilliant with the new engine.

been looking at these for a while now quite fancy one. what are they like to drive?? handle good? i was well impressed with my mates old 2.0 16v, it was the old shape though with pop up headlights, lowered on compomotives, handled awesome!

also been looking at those corolla compressors, now they are just awesome! 220bhp rev to 8500 and and supercharged!

Cheers mate, the 190 is an awesome engine, got voted engine of the year in 2003! Same engine used in the 190 lotus elise, iv got a feeling the corrola compressor is the same vvtli engine with a supercharger bolted on, again the same engine as in the 220hp exige! Then gen 7 celica handles like its on rails from standerd, as standerd you get double wishbone rear suspension which is fully adjustable for camber and caster angles which is really handy when lowering to get rid the the negitive camber! cheers mate im happy with how the car is looking, just want some gt skirts and front splitter!

How old are you mate? Im guessing 21? Due to ur user name lol i got my celica at 21 and found insurance was cheap £650 for the 140 but the 190s were setting me back 12-1400 which was silly money. So if u were to get one id get a 140 unless u can get the insurance down on a 190! The 140 is good, need to rev it to hell to get it to shift but when its going it flys.

Is it the same engine as the Corolla tsport? If so they are mental! My mates is a type-r killer!. What's lift the same as vtec?

Yup same engine! Celica will do 0-62 quicker than the corrola but theres.not much differance. 62 in 7.2 secs and top speed of 140mph but many say it will do 150! Yup there supposed to be on par with the type r! Iift acts the same as a vtec

the 140 1.8 are basicly the same as in the avensis i take it? they are around 135 i think?

the word lift makes it sound like Halo Spaceage stuff though haha

Same as the vtec engines then, at a certain rpm they hold the valves open for longer basically, or i think lol

this car has thrown a spanner in the works for me!

Lol it does sound like some space age stuff! It is quite a complicated system but it works! I have only driven a 190 once and i loved it. I have tryed racing one with my 140 and it blew me away, tryed racing one with my 2.0 si and it thrashed me! I was shocked it was a 1.8 na engine! Thats what made me want the celica

Heres a description of LIFT

VVTL-i builds on the foundation of the VVT-i system but adds an exciting sporty dimension to an engine whilst still maintaining good fuel economy and low emissions.

In addition to varying the timing of the intake valve, VVTL-i controls the amount of intake and exhaust valve lift which optimises engine power output.

The VVTL-i system features on the 1.8 litre 2ZZ-GE engine, which powers the new model Celica.

VVTL-i uses a cam changeover mechanism that increases the amount of intake and exhaust valve lift when the engine is operating at high speeds. The mechanism uses a unique rocker arm assembly with intake and exhaust camshafts that have two different types of cam lobes on them.

The lift of the intake and exhaust valves can be increased, allowing for a greater volume of fuel/mixture to enter the combustion chamber.

Additional engine power at engine speeds above 6000 RPM is produced due to the dramatically improved engine breathing.

For the new model Celica, VVTL-i offers all the advantages of VVT-i with the bonus of a dramatic power increase once the 6000 RPM threshold is reached and then keeps on delivering right up to the 7800 RPM limit.

This ensures a pleasurable driving experience around town with useable low and mid range power but enables exhilarating performance for open highway cruising or blowing out the cobwebs on your favourite stretch of back country roads.

problem with a highly strung engine like this is, its highly limited for further power enhancements from the likes of simple breathing mods etc, as its already been sqeezed out

making the only power gains expensive

Yeah thats the problem! Only real thing to do is turbo or supercharge it. A turbo 190 shifts, theres vids on you tube of them but just too pricy for me, ill enjoy the 190hp for afew years before i concider a turbo lol

The guy at Honda told me that Toyota and Honda share technologies, so Honda have given 1st gen vtec tech in return of 2nd gen vvti tech, etc - They all work in a simliary way, Newer k series Honda engines do anyway.

funilly enough the Celicia's are 190ps which is 187bhp which is the same as the UK Type R's like mine Very similiar spec! mine only weighs a little less a 1101kg standard (mine has the air con delete option though) so they must be very simliar in a straight line
