well the rule is NEVER re-use a cambelt. its like a jonny, one use only lol although it may seem like only 10k it'll be fine and it may well be ok but not worth the risk if it slips/snaps. for the price of a cambelt get it changed mate :thumbsup:

If you're going to rebuild the engine, make sure you have a book which explains exactly what tools you need, what torque settings you need, which parts you need and so on. Everything needs to be done correctly otherwise you may end up with a naff underpowered engine, or even one that will go bang again in a matter of minutes.

Oh and budget more than what you think it will cost. That's my tip!

New engine bought, paid for and on the way.

So I need to order a cambelt.

Anything else you guys would recommend? Aux belt? I've got oil on the way. Maybe i'll wait to see what the engines like before I buy parts, if its got any problems i'll buy stuff after.

Oil filter can be re used as I literally just changed it when I fitted the cams?

surely u are not going to use the old filter for the sake of a 5er u might aswell get a new 1 that has not had old oil in to save contaminating the fresh oil u are putting in

and u say u have only just fitted it but it will still be dirty plus if there was and metal particals floating around from when u blew your engine up they will be in the filter aswell as that is its job to collect the foreign bodies in the engine oil

i am far from being a expert but surely dont reuse it for the sake of 5 pound

if you want it to last, then make sure you get a new cambelt, tensioner, waterpump, coolant, oil, oil filter and maybe even an oil pump depending on if these engines are known to have oil pumps fail. Might as well slap on an Aux belt for the sake of it.

Oh and if I were you I would renew/uprate engine mounts whilst the engine is out, get some fresh gearbox oil in there, and maybe even a clutch/uprated flywheel if you haven't done so.

Also check oil seals like the sump pan seal as it can leak after its been sitting on its arse and moved about as it is not used to that.

Ok sweet thanks, thats a real help

I put a ? next to oil filter for the reason of thinking about the metal going into it, was on my phone so big replies werent' so easy.

Where can I source new engine mounts that isn't going to Ford and being anal raped? As Euro car parts don't stock them :lol:

I was thinking a clutch but its either Â£90 or Â£130! which is lots.. But I am thinking it might be an idea due to mine probably being on 70k. Would the Â£90 one be alright?

annnnnd how much gearbox oil?

replace a clutch now which will take you 3 minutes now orrr replace it when it goes, and pay for quite a few hours labour.

Go for the best clutch you can if you're going to be doing plenty of 1/4's and track work. Â£130 is not a lot. I've no idea on ford engine mounts, and it may be that yours are fine already. usually lower gearbox mount provides the best improvement.

if your serious about the car, spend the money now, if you think you may get rid in a few months or a year, then just bang the engine in and be done.

Thats the Â£90 one.

I am pretty serious about the car, insurance doesn't fill you with confidence when the only next step cars you want have turbo's. plus the fact I cba with getting another car, also can't make up my mind which ones i'd want :lol:

I want this car for a good 3-4 years more.

But yeah thats cool, tis why I asked so I knew what sort of things would be useful to be replaced whilst its out, has definately added to my list so thanks

something like that? and if you want extra performance, see if any placers sell lighter flywheels. If I was staying N/A, I'd be uprating my flywheel and getting a new set of gear ratios about now

Yeah shawspeed can lighten flywheels. I'd love am FRP box as well. But this is all getting a bit expensive and i'm on a tight overdraft budget

i've gotta pay for my map within all this as well. But I will definately do the clutch and i've just been recommended an ST clutch as they fit

I'd rather that than a fast road clutch as they can be heavy I hear. but thank youu
