got an update on the white fiesta I decided it was time to clean the front bumper as the bumpers had been stored in the prevoius owners garage and always had a dusty over spray on them so I got a bottle of t cut out and started on and it was going to plan....

Image

but then I hit some dodgy paint leave me no choice but to repaint the whole bumper and ive never done any painting before

Image
bumper off

wet and dryed the bumper

it hasnt come up too bad its not prefect bit defo better than it was, I also re painted the inside section of the plastic xr2i arch and it had no paint left on it due to stone chips

im tempted to try other areas next to help tidy it up a bit now :)

just needs a polish up now to get the paint smooth :)

Looks like it came up alright mate! I take it you used spray cans?

They are a bitch to get perfect coverage but good work either way!

This might give you a general idea of using G3. But you would have to wet sand the bumper first with something like 1500 grit to smoothen it out, then use the G3 to polish it up.

1200 grit would be fine, if ur gona try cutting back the bumper and them polishing it with a mop you wana make sure you have a really good covering with paint or u will go straight thro it in no time mops dont like curves!! use some 1600 and some 3m finnessit do it by hand will take longer but theres a lot less risk of fucking it up :O) always use a block where u can and for the curves put the wet n dry around a scotch pad so you dont get finger marks :)

hi guys I g3"d the bumper came pretty smooth so im happy with that

but going back to the si ive had some trouble with it :(

been trying to find where the vibration at high speed is coming from so I replaced the other driveshaft (short one ) & it made no difference and in fact it made another vibration when turning left making it almost undriveable and the shaft was in properly so thought must be a dodgy driveshaft so put the old one back on and was the same :(

so yesterday I dropped it off at a top notch garage local to me as ive given up with it, and when I dropped the car off tbe si dumped all of its gearbox oil outside the garage, the mechanic rang me and said the clip on the end of the long driveshaft was missing completely so that caused the massive vibration...it must have fallen out when the shorter driveshaft was fitted. im picking it up on monday just glad its driveable again but the high speed vibration hasnt been sorted yet so plan is the ditch the area six rose jointed wishbones as there not ideal for the road and are a little harsh esp with the mrs being pregnant its not comfortable for her, I nearly jumped on the car the other day I just want to get it right was so close to giving up on it but feel better when a garage works on it, as soon working on my cars is going to stop so plans are to tone it down make it more suitable for the road ive started doing this already by taking the poly top mounts off and replacing them with new genuine ford ones, feels so much better already has some give in the suspension :) ...... come november and its going into storage will be a minimum of 2 years I reacon, and out comes the happy 1.3 ohv white fiesta xr2i replica that gives me no grief :)

Shame it's given you so many problem Phil :( Hopefully it all gets sorted soon. Little problems like that are always a bitch, especially when you replace so much to try and sort the problem out and it doesn't make a difference.

well I got the car back on monday nasty vibration has gone now but still got high speed one to deal with so im going to look at that once its off the road again as im going to take all the wheels off and be checked for buckles
if they are ok im going to get them all refurbed at some stage as paints flaked off and have new tyres fitted so I may run them on the run around for a year to get my moneys worth out of the tyres

also it now needs welding....not supprised really as further checks on my cars history was in fact to be a dagenham built si so 18years on the orignal sills not bad for a dagenham one.
drivers side rear has started to go, glad I got 2 brand new sills in the garage so im going to have the whole sill replaced and found some random inner sill rot on the passenger side when I removed the amp wiring a fair few months back got quotes to get it all done professionly by the same guy who done the inner wing on the white fiesta for 250/300 quid so hopefully getting that done in november want to get it all done before the baby comes :)

so plans:
wheels refurbed professionly
powerflex wishbones with bolt in ball joint and camber adjustment
front bumper respray
welding
tuck away for 2 or more years as of 31st october

Plans sound good Phil.

Good job you have a couple of sills, saves it being bodged up and rot coming back :)

welll with the steelie on one side and an alloy on the other the steering was all over the place due to the weight differences so next idea it to take the alloys to my mate at fords and get them checked over

I vaguely looked into the axle spacers mate, but couldnt be bothered to mess around with the axle when 4 nuts take the wheel off is so much easier and quicker :)

How much did them spacers cost? Might have to invest in some for mine one day as I hate how much the rea wheels sit in the arch. They look scared as my mate put it the other day.

Why not make your own adjustable lower arms? It's not too hard to do :)

are you selling your current ones then phil?

dont axle spacers add less strain on the wheel bearings whereas hubcentric spacers add slightly more?
