What an event full 24 hours lol

coming home from work the 1.3 decides to put a conrod through the block, so me broken down on the side of the m25 again.

Thought i best get the tyres and tracking sorted on the turbo so the next morning i set about doing it.

Was waiting at a set of lights, thought i might as well light them up, so launched it... thought the clutch was slipping at first. Then seemed ok.

Pulled up to my tyre man, then went to move the car, wouldnt move. As it was sat in first gear with the clutch up and not going anywhere and i could hear strange grinding noise, i poked my head underneath and found n/s driveshaft turning but cv not moving. Thought excellent this will be a easy fix. Got my tyres done etc, my bro towed me home with his gf's 107, that was a story in itself. Went and got a cv, then found this.

It seems as if where its been shortened its broken. I can only assume that when they shorten it they press fit the two bits together and the two bits are now turning on each other.

So i'm now carless again :frown: Off too find a 2.0 focus driveshaft too get things going again...

Man that sucks!

As a temp fix you could drill an hole through both parts and stick a bolt through it with a nut on the other end. That'll get you driving again for now. You'd have thought something better was done with these rather than just pressing them together!

Unlucky pal, hope you get it sorted soon.
Does it have to be a 2.0 because i bet theres loads of 1.8s knocking around.

Danny, the bolt idea has been thought about, but i can just see it breaking lol. I know i will give it some and that will be end of!

Well i imagine there press fitted but with a spline if you see what i mean. Looking at custom solid ones but there gonna set me back a bit...

Loumiester, been speaking to jimmy who built it, he says that the 1.8s and under have ib5 boxes, therefor scrawny driveshafts. 2.0s have mtx boxes so driveshafts are nice and chunky. Been browsing fleabay and the diesel driveshafts look big as well, but gonna go and have a hunt in the scrappy.

On a good note - replaced drive belt tensioner pulley and 1 of the guide pulleys, runs much quieter and sounds smoother. No rattling :D

On a not so good note, need to get arse in gear and sort driveshaft. Recoprop don't shorten shafts any more on site so trying to find somewhere to make a custom one. Any one know anywhere local?

Been busy today! Should have my shortened driveshaft back tomorrow so will be back on the road.

Got my driveshaft shortened by cps/drivelink in Gateshead. http://www.drivelink.com/contact_Drivelink.cfm - Paul Sowerby is who you want - top man.

While its had no driveshaft its gained a new set of front discs as old ones where v. warped, new nsf wheel bearing, new osf inner cv boot, new osf outer joint.

Also had a little clean, wheels inside and out. Rear quarter windows, cleaned off the rusty marks from bolts, just need the new caps :D

Ok it runs, works, driveshaft is gggooooooooooooooooooood.

Was bored of crappy centre console. Out with the old and in with the new.

Its erm, cable tied in place at moment. Problems too address:

1. Fit golf handbrake handle too floor in the right place so that it sits flush and level to the centre console.
2. Make fiesta handbrake cable fit golf handbrake handle.
3. relocate buckles for seat belts. (mk3 floors - buckles are right in middle of floor!)
3. get arm-rest from a golf mk4 :D:D:D:D
4. get ashtray/some sort of cubby hole/tray to fit part of centre console
5. do some bendy/bracket/make fit work on passenger leg room area of console as it sticks out a bit. and tidy up some little bits with some trims from a mk4 golf

The boot release button fits perfect in place of the golf petrol flap release switch, and it matches colour wise too. I Like.
