:x :x :x :x :x :x :x I JUST TYPED A POST AND LOST IT ALL SO THIS IS IT IN SHORT:!!!

A little education for everyone

Car all over place when accelerating/braking.... had recently replaced wishbones and top mounts/bearings, (two months ago)

My tyres was unevenly worn so i thought that was the main cause. Got some tyres, was better but not really.

So i got some decent stuff, as only stuff i could put it down to was this: Lemforder wishbones and genuine top mounts/bearings.

Image

Image

Just for your information, lemforder is brand of zf, they supply to many car manufacturers including ford, bmw, vag, merc etc. There parts are very good.

The part number on the wishbone bush is a ford one, made by boge, boge is also a brand of ZF

The problem with the cheap wishbones seems to be that the bushes unglue from the wishbone, creating movement.

Top mounts.

Image

Image

As you can see the cheapo ones are worn quite a bit, making lots of movement.

And they sit differently on the top spring cup, which cant be helping things:

Bearings.

Image

Made in germany. I know they cant win the war, but theyre pretty dam good at building cars/parts.

The cheapo ones where rough as .......

Image

You cant really see it but the cheap ones dont seem to seal up the bearing properly.

As you can imagine it made a hell of a difference. Tracking was a bit out so got that sorted and she drives lovely.

Moral of the story, buy decent parts, genuine where possible. Cheap parts = dont last long.

This post was more in detail, but me being a numpty managed to close the page.....

I agree with buying decent parts, especially on a modified car where the stress levels are much more than manufacture standards :)

Adjustable ones, well there still lying around somewhere, the bushes are dead.

Non adjustable at the mo, but to be fair its not low enough too need them, the camber is ok. I think it handles better too.

dam this is a late reply.

No there not poly'd just standard. Now you see the thing is, poly bushes are good, but for track use.

Polybushes limit the amount of movement, so give good responsiveness in suspension/steering, at the cost of a bit of comfort. On a track = nice and smooth, which is nice.

However, on a road car, especially with the roads the state they are in around here, you basically end up wearing a hole inside the polybush. Thus movement and knocking noises.

Therefore in my oppinion, you are better of with a good, i must stress, good, quality set of wishbones.

On a good note, just won a set of gsxr600 throttle bodys for 32 english pounds

ha good find

you make poly' sound far worse than they are lol

even on the road they should outlast rubbers, but i agree, for wishbones, top mounts and rear beam mounts they are quite harsh on already stiff Si suspension :P

Travelling home on the M4 sat morning after picking up a lsd box, someone cut out in front of me and i braked heavily, locked up and ended up in the central reservation.

Luckily i managed to not hit anyone else, im ok. But pissed off, no one stopped, i had to pay 150 quid recovery to get me of the motorway too.

Repairable, dont think its bent chassis but untill the front wings off i just dont know.

:(
