im game for paying full price and a bit on the side... is how i roll...

right bell stinks (my word)... will be looking for an engine in the up and coming week... but advice on buying it, which mondeo engine am i looking for? because i know its between 2, is it phase 1 or 2? or black top n silver top? also knowing an engines a good runner, do i need to buy it from a running car and take it out orrrr just trust em? i mean ill be doing what danny has done with his so does that matter?

You want a silver top, phase 1 or 2 but 2 is better.
Would be good to see it running but i suppose that depends on the situation the engine is when you find one.

in talks with sam about his erst standard box! his other is slightly out of my price range but i think his should cut the mustard... if i go power seeking in the future louis ill hopefully be minted.

Will be mint with an erst box, should be able to use all the soon to be acquired power in the bends.

definately silver top. phase one or two isnt really going to matter. phase two would be best. buy based on how it runs i.e smokes and knocks rather than a slightly iffy idle or something trivial. zetecs are pretty reliable. running faults are normally sensor related and youll be putting fiesta ones on so thats not really much of an issue. check the oil and water. if all seems well it probably is. again nice to see it running if you can. dont worry if its an auto either. just means youll have to change the crank pickup holder

p.s from past experience theres alot of erst boxes out there and the lsd pickup is pretty slack. its only a plate design so it does wear easily sorted but will require a stripdown. if you want one buy the best you can

to be honest thats a whole technical article on its own. you have to split the case and take the diff itself to bits. anyways. youll need to change both manifolds. run a cvh oil filter or get a fiesta/zetec escort oil pump. water pump ( and pulley as thatll be different) and belt while its out. bin off all the brackets and use fiesta ones. sump pickup pipe and flywheel. zetec mounts and hang that bad boy in there
