fixed the runabout put a new alternator and speedo cable on it all good

what a pain getting off the old alternator was though mainly because of the power steering pump being in the way and so the only option really was to take the exhaust manifold off and one of the 3 studs snapped off where it meets the downpipe , luckly my mate was fixing his jaguar at the time so he sorted the stud for me with a nice new one

also got genuine ford head bolts and cam belt for the si





and zetec inside steering rack limiters




and then on saturday i removed the si's pas column and seannysi and me fitted the manual one with the new steering knuckle and recondition manual steering rack

it all fitted nicely but wasnt without problems, and manual steering grommet was being a pain to get in place then with it all bolted up there was a grinding sound which turned out to be the spring on the column.



then today when i was fitted the interior parts back together more problems the surrounds for the steering wheel wouldnt fit, i was like noo!!! its the wrong column but i had fitted the column too far down in the steering knuckle the other end doh! but finally sorted it



hoping to be getting the cylinder head back on the car on saturday

another update

i cleaned up the pick up pipe and the tray thats sits inside in the sump, the mesh on the pick up pipe was full of instant gasket but cleaned it all out

then put new gasket on the sump and fitted it to the car





annoyingly the stainless steel bolts for the sump i bought came with the wrong washers so i sent them a email and today another set arrived today so will fit those one by one next week

then my mate cleaned up the top of the block and treid the genuine headgasket .......and it was wrong so a new one should arrive by friday

also i had the cylinder head skimmed and cleaned it came up really well (the head it just resting on the block in the picture)



better picture on the manual steering conversion now i can get the car out of the garage



also since september ive been cleaned and derusting the underside of my si

and fitted my new heat sheilds and painted the fuel tank, i didnt take the tank off in the end as i was up for it and it still has over a half a tank of fuel in it, but it came up pretty well, but was covered in underseal before





also put a new number plate light on

also put a new oil filter and fuel filter on the car so its all ready

also re fitted the starter motor and placed my xr2i front mount with new alternator just with a few bolts till i give the block a paint




also done a few other little bits that were not in the correct place like the bonnet cable, which is meant to go through a hole in the slam panel so i sorted that and at the same time i degreased the gunk inside and put new new grease in it

I need to get a new number plate night... mine has... well its melted I had to put a spare bulb in there one night last year to get me home after being stopped by the police, the bulb I used was the reverse light bulb... Yep, way to big, melted it a treat

You have inspired me to find a new numberplate light too, nice touch!

With that painted alternator bracket, make sure it is free of paint where it meets both the alternator bolts and the block itsself, as this is how the alternator earths. Learnt that the hard way when I painted mine on the si

Either that or run a new earth wire from one of the alternator mounting bolts to somewhere in the engine bay where another earth runs to
