Sure are some good roads down there. No drag runs no lol. I would just for a laugh, but my gearbox mounts are fooked, so no hard acceleration for me! :(

Well then, not much has happened recently with my car.. but i got my hands on a nice little something this week.. A 1.6 zetec engine! I know its not much, but considering my car only has a 1.3 in it, it will be good to get a real engine in there finally.

The engine is coming out of a P reg escort, cant remember the milage.. basically, i got a whole escort for free at work, so taking the engine out lol. Will have to see if the escort loom is the same as a fiesta one, if not, will get a fiesta one and all the other bits i need.

The car itself is a non runner, but that is due to a faulty fuel pump, and its completely rotten and the only good thing in it is the engine and interior lol. It has been running, and did run fine.. so thats good.

So, in the next few months i will most probably be stripping it down and giving it all new gaskets, making sure all the internernals and that are ok, which im sure they are, it just needs a new cambelt at the moment. Will swap any bits over on the engine that need to be changed to suit a fiesta - which im sure wont be much, if anything at all.

Then when i have everything i need, will get my car into our workshop, take the engine out, weld a new engine mount in place (might do that before i take mine out), change the wiring loom, slap the 1.6 in there and see how it goes!

Then, what i would like to do, even though its a 1.6, i want to do little mods here and there to get a bit more power out of it, cheap as possible too of course lol.. im thinking bike carb conversion on the cheap, air filter, decent exhaust system.. was thinking about cams.. but cant be bothered, plus they are expensive, so will try and make it a rather quick 1.6.. then when i get bored of that engine, which might not be for a while, ill put a 2 litre in there :)

So, i will keep this updated with the engine stuff as well as all the other little bits i do to the car :D

Yea, ever since i owned it its been asking for a more powerful engine lol. My 1.3 is on a lovely 121k now, and it going very strong still, mine burns a little bit of oil, not alot though, i can top it up and it will ast about 4 months until i check it, and its droppes a few MM below the minimum.

But, its common for them engines to burn oil, if yours burns loads, could be piston ring failure. Do a compression check, then if it looses compression on 1 cylinder or something, put a bit of oil in there, do the compression check again, and if its back up, it would indicate piston rings going.

Anyway, little update, i had confirmation from someone that some of the stuff from the escort wont fit into i fiesta, this list is as follows:

engine loom
radiator + hoses
engine mounts
exhaust

Basically, i thought all of that would need changing anyway, all of it is easily attainable from people or a scrappy, so no problem there, luckily, it already has the correct inlet manifold which was mentioned too, so thats 1 less thing to worry about.

Just going to gather bits over time while i strip it down and re-build it. I hope to have it in within 2 months, so if all goes well and i keep to my plans, then it should be in. 2 months does seem along time, but i can only work on it after work/during breaks and weekends when i dont work because we are always busy pretty much which sucks lol.

Just found out its had a new clutch fitted too, so thats another thing to not worry about :)

Aiming to keep this as cheap as possible.. which im sure i will lol.

Should have the engine out sat morning, going to work hard at it getting it out, shouldnt be too hard.. so ill get pics and update this sat evening when i get home :)

Minor update..

Started on taking the engine out today, didnt get alot done as i got up late, and wasnt able to get the car in the workshop as we had alot of work booked for the morning, so i set about working outside in the sun... cant complain about that lol.

So, as i didnt have a ramp or air tools to help me out, i just got the engine ready to drop out when it comes to the time (should be next wed eve, or sat).

All i done was disconnect all wiring, plugs, hoses ect ect, took some of the wiring loom out, left some behind the bulk head.. as im getting a fiesta zetec wiring loom, i dont really need the escort one, plus it wont fit.

Also, im slowly starting to aquire some of the bits i need for the conversion.. im going to be getting a rad from a scrappy probably, hopefully get some hoses from someone on the forums, also getting the wiring loom from them too. I got myself an ecu today - guru one.. for free :D.. will hopefully get engine mounts next week from the scrappy too, and as for the exhaust, that might be a scrappy job too, or see if anyone has a complete system for sale..

So its slowly getting there..

As for my car as it stands, i got myself a new downpipe as mine has cracked around the lambda sensor and has a massive hole in it.. so its blowing and running very rich.. not good! So will put that on tomorrow i expect. Might be putting my new front bumper on this evening or tomorrow if i can be bothered lol.

Pics time i think!

This is the doner car for the engine... it did have alloys on it but they soon went to my mate as well as the interior lol..

It doesnt look very interesting on the outside, looks very tatty, its totoally rotten, but inside is mint lol.

Image

And this is the work from today, doesnt look much at all, but the engine is ready to come out now pretty much.. so like i said, will be coming out soon.

Looks good, you'll love a 1.6, you saw me fly away from the club stand at MM :P if you could call it flying, is quite nippy.
what you doing with your old exhaust system? I saw it at MM and it looks good, if your selling it and its a full system or whatever i'll have it off you :P
the engine bay looks pretty clean as well good stuff.

Yea the 1.6 is a pretty nippy little engine, should be good fun when its in! My exhaust system is just a backbox, nothing special, company called GT3 on ebay, they make direct fit systems/backbox's. Its nice, not too loud, not too quiet, and has a nice tone to it i think. I'll be keeping it i expect lol. And the engine bay is pretty clean, well it was until i pulled one of the power steering hoses off the pump and power steering fluid went everywhere lol. Soon cleaned it up though!

This is what my exhaust sounds like..

Not much of an update to be honest... the engine is still in the car lol. Only because we have been mega busy at work and havent had the time to get it in the workshop. This sat is when it will be out though as im scrapping the car next week!

Just slowly gathering bits for the conversion.

Got myself the ecu from a scrappy, and a wiring loom and a couple of rad hoses from a member on here called ware_10. Very nice fella indeed!

Crappy pics here we go lol.

Image

So, earlier this month, my backbox decided to catch swine flu, and all its insides came out.... well actually, the inside broke up and the baffles come out, which made it pretty damn loud.. not what i want.

Can see the old non aubergine bumper on the car here lol (for sale ;)).
Image
Image

So, i emailed the company i bought it off as its still under warranty, sent them some pics, and the next thing you know, I have a new one, free! :D

Image
Image

So that shall be going on tomorrow.. be nice to have a quieter car again.

If anyone wants my old backbox - same as these pics, i might sell it lol.

Right-eo, not much to report on, just a couple of pics - crap ones at that, i think my camera on my phone is dead, doesnt take good pics anymore lol. I will get better pics during the week!

So, spent saturday morning working on the escort, dropped the engine and gearbox out and had a little look at it, outside looks all good.

Lovely wet workshop floor :( lol - some crappy blury pics lol.

Image

Image

So then, i started taking bits of, took the rocker cover off to spray at home - mega fail to follow!

As the engine has been stood for a year or so by the previous owner and never run at all during that period, a few cam lobes have got a bit of rust on them on the flank (technical terms coming in now lol), luckily not on the nose, but the rust is a litte more than surface, so the cams will need replacing. Seems to be only the gearbox end too, all the rest are spotless. Anyway, will get some new ones and pics of the cams tomorrow.

So as a result of this, im going to most probably strip the engine down and check it all - will get our little snap-on fibre optic camera down the spark plug holes to have a look inside the bore and on top of the pistons just to have a real quick look what its like so i dont get a suprise when i strip it down. Should be ok though hopefully.

Anyway, onto making the engine look presentable, starting to spray bits up, took the rocker cover home, was wet outside to decided to do it indoors.

Was like this, then gave it a really good scrub and proceeded to spray in the spare room.

Image

Image

All looks well so far (this was after 1 coat of paint, didnt bother with primer lol)

Got rudely woken up in the morning by mum which she said 'Danny, have you seen the state of the floor?' I replied 'What you on about? There are black bags there, it wont go through' Mum: 'No, the floor is red!' ... after going back to sleep for a few hours, i got up, took a look and here comes the mega fail!

No word of a lie, the paint got on every inch of the floor! Its under the bed, under the chest of draws, bloody everywhere, good thing is, its only on the floor, not on furnature.. but what a nighmare!

Image

So i leant my lesson while i was scrubbing the paint off the floor :D

Anywho, i decided to make something to keep it in while spraying, i got an old computer case from the loft, bent it open, put some black bags around it.. and hey presto, my own spray booth!

And no, i didnt carry on spraying inside, done it outside and brang it in to dry lol.

Image
Image

How i want it to look is like this: (this is luca's rocker cover before it got sprayed white, hope you dont mind me copying you Luke, but it looks the nuts in my opinion!)

Pic from FF mag.
Image

So thats it, not much, but its a start!

Lol well done.
Looks good and at least you can sort all the little problems out before the engine goes in and fails on you.
