Was playing with wheels today.. nitromor is nasty stuff... makes your skin itch far quicker than strong acids and other nasty chemicals
It doesnt touch the paint though, but the lacquer on the top came of easly.

Not sure what to do with them yet, but I quite like the brushed finnish I have got so far (I dont really like the painted or dull smooth look that alloys usually have, that includes chrome, just too smooth and looks fake to me)
I think if they were bead blasted (£60!) they would look dull and not so nice. Although I cant get to the corners of the spokes the same way that I done the rest.








btw the center cap wasnt finished, got two mixed up.. and the masking tape is to protect the original finnish on the front (whats left of it) - not sure if I will just sand over it since some is corroded.

I done colour correction in psp7, -15 red, +10 green, +70 blue, so if it looks odd, thats why. Some reson the camera was changing everything yellow after I took them...

I went round the outer rim with a file, so only the deep scratches left, wont be too noticeable but I am not using paint or filler...

Also, the RS stickers were not looking good. Im thinking about casting some bits for the center out of copper (but doesnt look too bad as it is), which would have the SI logo, but need to get one from the breakers to use as a mold.

I went out to get a new drill yesterday and had time to play with it today. cordless ones are horrible.. Argos has an AWESOME one for £6.49! and made this a lot easier.

I started with a sandpaper flap wheel to remove the paint, then used a steel wire brush for most of it, gave a nice coarse finish, but it wasnt very even so I went over it with the brass brush - this was almost polishing it, some bits have started to go shiny, while some are still dull, The finish isn't very even yet either.

first pics were with the flash.. wasn't sure how to use my mums camera...

Also I haven't touched the face of the wheel yet, except lightly removed some corrosion with the brush, so not nearly done















I really ****need**** a small brass (or softer) wire brush for the corners, to make it look a lot smoother, going to a few shops tomorrow to find one!

also might try some fine polishing compound, although the finish is not really smooth enough to make use of it. I have some very good stuff somewhere, but not nearly enough for 1 wheel...





For the face, I know I wont get close to the diamond cut finish unless I spent a stupid amount of time on it.. anyway I have a rubber plate thing for the drill, which I can put a large piece of sandpaper on, so should be a lot quicker if I use 800 or higher grit to polish it
