I would go over it with some fine-medium sand paper to smoothen it all off and get the left over bits of grease and that off that also gives it a surface for the primer to stick to, then primer it, sand it back with fine paper, then put colour on there. Job done.

Dont put lacquer on there, it will just burn off and ruin your work.

Best paint to use in my personal opinion, is hammerite. If you want to use that, you dont even need to primer it, just whack it straight on there :)

So what process did you paint yours then? Shouldnt crack or bubble if you do it properly.

yea i dont want it to crack like yours has jony but why did u put vht paint on then put a final coat on surely that final coat would affect the vht paint as the vht paint would surely be ok made it is the final coat that has made it crack :?

i will give it a go like danny said and see how it ends up as imo it would be wasted work if i did it then it cracked and i would not be happy with it so would have to come off again

and dont really want to chrome my engine bay as fu*k no's how people keep it clean and i wont see it when bonnet is shut :lolz: and it wont be a concours car as i could not afford to go that mad with the spending

so just wanted to do things to freshen it up like you have danny but instead of black and silver i would be doing it body colour so i wont be able to get that colour in hammerite

plus when it has primer on do i wet and flat it or just dry sand still

it has black vht on orignally, then primered over and painted in normal paints and laquered

it just cant hold to the paint and bubbles here and there :(

If you put just normal paint/high temp on there first with no primer, course it will crack lol.

Ive painted loads of rocker covers and that, had no problems with any.

Booker, just get some hammerite on there, will be 110% fine :)

I'm sure he can read but can you think? Putting a VHT paint base down doens't automatically make primer heat resistant does it?

I shall be spraying mine with hammerite. Won't get a custom colour but should last longer.

Well well well it been a while due to losing my license :banghead: and got 6 month ban :banghead: but of ban now so itching to drive again :halo:

Still got the rs it has had a bit of work done to it only by my self I have took whole of the interior out and had that all cleaned plus carpet with a new underlay as it was at bit worn and had been wet previously but while it was all out I give the floorpan a good coat of hammerite only found tiny bit of rust where the heel goes under the pedal in the corner so that got a good wire brushing before being painted then put all the interior back in so it is all nice and fresh now :)

I have bought a set of 5 mk5 rs2000 alloys of Sleeman a while back so waiting to have money to get them powder coated no different to what I have got but 15s instead of 14s so more alloy less tyre :halo:

It has now got a rs bonnet on it at the moment in matt black it don't look to bad in black but will get it colour coded (still don't no the exact colour) but there is a few scuffs and scratches around the car plus the laquer is peeling on the front bumper so will be hoping for a full blow over before it is on the road again

Also put a golf splitter on the front makes it look soooo much lower

Also bought rs spoiler ready for when it hopefully gets it's respray

Got 5ltr of castrol magnetec and oil filter plus forte engine flush ready for a service but not doin it till I have bought myself new spark plugs, leads etc for a full service

But it has just sat there for about 8 months Mot in beginning of November couple of things need doing but hopefully it will go well as I will keep a Mot on it incase it every needs to be driven mate got traders ins so easy to tax plus I could get a cheeky weeks insurance for shows and to remind me to keep it lol :D
