Sounds like you've had a riot.lol

I know how cold it is working out in the snow!

As for your starter, when you were trying too start it did you hear any clicking noises?

All the best with getting it back today, the roads are death!

On thursday i had too have 5 people push my heavy old cossie up our close as i couldn't get up it on my own with out wheel spinning.LOL

Oh God it has been hectic haha, i got some fingerless gloves to help keep my hands warm but i always forget your fingers get just as cold lol.

The starter clicks and it's like the car sort of turns over once or twice but as if the battery is low, so as if it's a bit half hearted and doesn't actually start up.
Looking outside i don't think i'm going to be able to get it back still but i'll sweep by and see if they gritted the road where it is.

LOL! God Don't I know that feeling! It's like you start off with a fighting will to not give up but you just have to give up after everyone starts staring at you haha... I think it might have come to the stage where we'll have to keep shovel's in our cars!

any luck with getting the car back?

might be a combination of both the starter and the battery showing signs of having enough, then again the cold weather is a killer for batteries

luckily we never gave up pushing it up the hill as i wasn't prepared too leave it anywhere! :hmm: :squint:

Yes i have thanks for asking!

I charged the battery up last night and put it in, and the car started first time to my suprise. I drove it across to town to get to my house and it stalled when i changed gear (had the clutch down) then proceeded not to turn over and acted like the battery was too flat to start it once again.
So we tow started it and then the tow 'wire' snapped after it started (whoops!) and i drove literally 1 mile up a straight road to my house and it died again when changing gear and once again failed to start. I did notice the wipers gradually getting slower whilst being towed back the rest of the way so that is making me think the battery is on its last legs.

I'm also considering if the alternator is working fine as well, so will need to get a voltmeter on it when it's not snowing for once.

I'm left a little dull on zvh's as to use spark plugs for the 2.0 or rs turbo (I believe the HT leads are RS ones), as well as which alternator should be there as well. This could help it run a little better as well.
Really i need to take the starter and alternator off give them a clean up and test somehow and then see what happens from there.
Also found out running 10psi in sleet and snow is a VERY bad idea!

Thanks for your replies onslack! I could imagine not wanting to leave your Cossie laying about just incase someone decided to spank into it at the side of the road, as i bet there's been a ton of hit and runs these past few days! You're a risk taker for taking it out might i say as since i took my mum's bmw out for work the other night rwd has so far stuggled so much in the snow (the back end came out around the corners a hell of a lot to the extent i clipped a car :S).

I'm hoping for some 'dryer' weather so i can drive and work on sorting her out easier, if not i'll assemble the gazebo

Glad you got it back!

Does sound like you've got something draining your battery, hopefully that volt metre will help narrow down where the issue is

Yeah i dont mind leaving my cossie in car parks as being a big taxi not many people spot it unless you know what your looking for,but this snow and moron's that dont seem too be able too drive according too the conditions are what worry me the most,i know when and when not too push it.but going by the other mighti had people up my chuff everywhere i went just because if i went any faster i had 0 traction.lol

Good luck with the car, keep us posted

With the way things are at the moment too slow's a lot better then too fast and that's for sure!

I think i may have solved my car's problem earlier as well. Fed up no one had a voltmeter and everyone shut i charged my battery up yet again and stuck it in and started to car (first time).
I then noticed that the header tank was empty and poured some water in there (about 4-6 liters worth) noticing it not gathering in the tank at all.. Then my mate got his torch out and i could see water dropslets flicking over the engine somewhere.. and a water leak on the floor.

Turns out the fan on the alternator has cut through the bottom rad pipe as my rad had moved back and the pipes slightly closer to the fan, and had also cut halfway through the alternator cables themselves.. which is possibly the main cause of my car dying the other night because it overheated.
I shall see if i wake up early enough to solve this!

Not much in progress on the fezz really happening sadly, it started sounding really rough now and it's quick concerning, as if it's got no oil in at all. But it has. Smoke still comes out the breather quite heavily as well.

But in other news I bought another fiesta!

bit tatty but it runs and i need one of them right now

RS1800 :D MOT till october, grabbed it for a bargain price cheap as chips... is pretty tatty though but next to none dents!
Not really modified to what I would usually go for but I can't complain at the price I paid. Would like to get rear seats back in it maybe, untint the windows and get rid of the gash sounding exhaust!!
Not looking to spend money on this really so not fussed on doing much to it.

I repaired the hose and the cable so both were fine again, but i'm not so sure the alternator is 100% or there's a short out somewhere.. the car was giving me a complete headache and so i think by taking a small break shall do me some good..!
Funcky noises? Well basically it sounds like the top end is tap dancing reallllll fast. I shall look at it, but when i don't feel like turning into the hulk and throwing it across the town ¬_¬.

I've been sorting the newbie car, it's also an Si but with an apparent rs1800 engine in it with a 1.6 gearbox. And well.. maybe it's because it's not running totally 100% but i'm just not convinced it is what it is. A few things such as what i believe is a plug for air conditioning? that runs above the cam cover (tell me if i'm right if you see it, little green plug thing) and well the only other thing i have to go on is my old 1.8 xr2i felt a hell of a lot more torqey at first.

But since i been doing this and that i've regapped the plugs which helped a little, changed that stupid turbo crosspipe, it's dented the bonnet underneath!! It's been replaced with a k&n pipe and some of the old flexy bit has be used to i could bend the MAF around to fit the stupid pipecross filter in alright!
Changed the MAF to a 2.0 Si one and switched the sensors over as someone else here had done, this made it run a lot smoother but it's still idling real lumpyish.
Still need to tighted the alternator cable as it chirps like a bird while driving!! Also would like to clean the Idle control valve but it's a bit awkward to get out so i'll hack at it again with patience later.. Only other queries is my temp gauge doesn't work in this one so i don't know when to put the manual fan on -_- Geez. This leads to my parinoia that my heaters aren't as warm as they should be.

Will get some pics up soon!

a break maybe best, clean head etc

maybe more of your tappets/rockers have gone?

that green plug by the cam cover is for the PAS ;)

have you tried replacing the sensor on the bottom of the thermo stat? iirc that controls the temp gauage on the dash

good luck with sorting both cars, stick with it, there is nothing better than a sharp kick when bo0st kicks in

I'll see what to do when i get it back to my house. I don't want to fork out another head gasket really but if i'm taking the head off seems i've not much choice meh. I'll take it into a garage and they can tell me what's wrong and i'll sort it myself with my mates.

Ohh is it? Strange it's not connected and the PAS still works fine :S!

I'll will buy another temp sensor soon, i'll see if I can pick one up local. Also getting my slow puncture sorted and my alternator belt replaced tomorrow hopefully if i'm up early enough.

Couple of pics i took tonight quickly, first here's the car after it's clean.. it's been like 3 days and it's filthy already pahh

Sorted out that silly crossover pipe

This is nippy and all but i do miss the boost! I dislike that I've had a turbo because now i expect that of every car ;(
