Im kinda new to fords, having only picked up my first 1 yesterday lunch time, so any help would be greatly appreciated!! its a 1.4 si, after driving it about last night the oil light came on and after about 5 mins the tappets started to make a really bad noise, i got to my mates house and left it to cool down before i checked the oil, on checking it, the oil level and the quality of the oil was fine. Starting it up and driving home it sounded fine and the oil light didnt come on, has any one got any ideas what may of coursed this and how i could stop it happening again?

were you driving it quickly around corners as its possible for the oil to move to one side of the sump, away from the pick up. :?

any indication of engine temperature at the time?

might be worth draining oil, taking sump off and cleaning out the oil pick up pipe ?

The engine temperature is normally around the 'r' of 'norm' on the dial. Its never gone any higher than the 'o'.

ah might also be worth getting your engine flushed with the machine that pumps oily detergant through and sucks out all the shit through the oil filter area rather than through the sump..

i had it done and engine runs smoothly..

dont just get the tip in detergant as thats not very good..

It turns out it was the oil pick up pipe, not sure what was wrong with it but the cars still under warranty so its in the garage waiting for the new bits to arrive.

Glad its sorted. I've had a bad history with oil. My first Zetec was weeing it out as fast as i was putting it in due to worn piston rings. :( Eventually i wrecked the shells in it, KAPPUT!
