Post subject: | Sensor issues please help |
hi there, basically, my coolant temp sensor is the issue, it is brand new. When the ignition is switched off it has a 12v reading on one wire and has an earth with no resistance. When the ignition is switched on it has 7v reading on wire and has just about has an earth but it was 50 ohms resistance iirc. Anyone know what could be causing this or whether it is supposed to do this? The reason i ask is, when the car is cold it goes like stink but as soon as it has warmed up it is dead, (i dont rag it from cold normally lol) Any help would be great thanks Emlyn |

What makes you think its the coolant sensor? If its new, it should be good, are you sure you have measured it correct? Voltage applyed to it is irrelevant since its a thermistor, so measure ohm's between the two wires (not from one to ground) and you should get between 1-100k resistance. Could be other things like exhaust sensor.. |

As i said, it is because the car drives fine when cold but crap when its hot. The sensor itself is fine, I measured the resistance across it which checked out fine. It is the wiring I think is the issue as the voltage changes when the ignition is on and the earth dissapears. I am taking these readings from the sensor plug not from the sensor. Also The lambda sensor is brand new. Any ideas? thanks emlyn |
