Hi, I have had this car for a year, done 65k, m reg.

I would like to take the head off and fit new valve seals.
To do this I need to get/buy: a torqe wrench (would this be adequate? http://www.screwfix.com/app/sfd/cat/pro ... 5&id=18289 , valve spring compressor?
Anyone know where i can buy these online?

Its been burning a lot of oil - 1 liter/200 miles.
If I let it idle, then rev it to 4k for a moment, there will be a large ball of white smoke.
If I let it idle, then hold it at 4k, there will be the same ball of smoke but it quickly reduces to a small amount of white smoke.
There is liquid in cylinder3, Im told the valve seals probably need replacing.
It has had a compression test and all cylinders seem good, at around 205psi.

It also appears to run rich. cyl3 also had deposits round the plug, but they are now gone since changing the leads.
I have tested the HEGO sensor, and also tested with the MAF disconnected, which doesnt seem to make any difference.
As well as the oily white smoke, there is black sooty smoke, although im not sure if this continues when warmed up.
Unplugging the MAF cable seems to stop it running rich but Im not sure.

Should be able to get the parts from the ford parts store?: new head bolts, head gasket, rocker cover gasket, valve springs, valve stem oil seals. Did I miss anything that will defienatly need to be replaced?

I have looked for reconditioned heads but cant find anything on ebay...

i may be wrong but i doubt oil burning would be caused by the head more likely to be a worn engine

does yer car overheat at all ??

white smoke may mean head gasket gone

A litre every 200 miles is alot. Sure its not piston rings?

Maybe an ideal time to put a 2.0 engine in.

Could be piston rings. I wanted to get a vacume gauge to check... But most of the mechanics Ive spoke to say valve stem seals.

Its not head gasket.. since it wouldnt hold pressure

It seems to drive ok, there is no idle problems. Sometimes it seems to accelerate a lot better than others, but thats probably just me.

However I hate the HT leads, every time when I put them back I get some kind of misfire, only to do it again and its fixed. I wouldnt be suprised if I were getting misfires occasionaly whilst driving and not noticing ( they are bosch ones)

Ive been quoted £172 for a engine delivered, 64k miles, or £90 for a head, although I think thats straight out of a car and not reconditioned, so it might not be any good.

Would really help if somone knows where I can buy the correct spring compressor, or if I would be able to manage by pushing the spring down from one end to allow access to the collet, does the tool need to hold it at both ends (rather than one end against the lower seat)

White smoke means water mate, not oil. May be a coinsidence
that your oil is going down, or the smoke may be blue which
does mean oil.
