sounds like somthing is dry at the top end, not getting enough oil

I'd whip the Rocker cover off and check all is well under there!

seems as though its tapping as the cam is spinning maybe a dry tappet?

as chubbyjon said, whip the rocker cover off and look for wear, take a pic if your not sure what your looking for

The tapping is one of your hydraulic cam followers that is weak, does it do it when accelerating or is it just when you are backed off on the over run ? Does it sound like the cavaliers, astras & corsas used to do with a knackered cam. ? Does it do it when hot or cold ?

it does it mainly when i accelerate but sometimes it does it on idle usually when its both hot and cold always does it with the accelerator no matter whether its hot or cold how much are we looking to get that fixed??? cheers scotty

Had a similar sort of noise te other day, but was only when i accelerated i thought it was the tappets and it turned into(a very loud)rumbling/knocking noise, making me think the bottom end had let go. But after i got the car back to the hose i found that one of the egr things goin into the exhaust manifold had worked itself loose and broken off completly. its a very slight possibility but worth checking out just in case. it costs nothing
