Ok just had a new cambelt fitted, when the engine's cold I get a really uncomfortable snappy/cracky sound like those toy magnets that make a noise when you chuck them in the air together, or if you don't know about those then it's like tapping 2 marbles together fast.

It's coming from the belt area from what i can see, I thought it was the covers but took the top one off and played with the middle one and still does it. I can see the belt vibrating between the 2 cam sprockets so I'm assuming that's where it's coming from? When the engine's been run a minute or 2 and the belt appears to warm up, the noise goes away completely.

What I want to know is, is the noise coming from a tension problem with the belt?As it seems to be slack in the odd place and tight elsewhere. Or is it supposed to make that noise that with new belts or what? Is the belt even supposed to look vibrating at all?

Need to know as I need to drive it but if it's a risk then i'll leave it be and complain after the weekend to get it sorted.

definitely the belt making the noise. belt was replaced with new tensioner, appears as though it's not tensioned properly
