I was driving along last night doing about 70-80 not in too high a rev and i looked in my rear view and there was huge amounts of smoke/steam behind me. So i pulled over and smoke/steam was spewing out of the bonnet. After a while the smoke/steam stopped so i tried starting up the car and it all started fine etc but i didnt drive it as id already called the RAC. Whilst waiting i noticed aload of water under the car so i checked it and it smelt of coolant to me. When the RAC bloke finally arrived (3hours later in -4 conditons) he said he thought it was oil from either the head gasket or the gear box, so i was abit gutted. I just checked it now and i couldnt see any oil underneath but i noticed i had no water in the car at all so i started topping it up an i could hear it leaking fom some wheres. I found the leak and i think its just from a hose at the rear of the engine underneath the clutch cable. So i was wondering if it sounds like it is only this hose is the problem to u guys or do u think the RAC bloke could be onto something with the head/gear box problem.

Cheers Matt

Check oil, is there a milky substance in it?

Just sounds like she's overheated through lack of water, look for the leak, my guess would be the 'Y' pipe near your rad, common one to go! ;)

Brilliant stuff i thought he was wrong when he was sayin all that. I found the leak its up the back of the engine behind the main lump. Ill try and get it up on the ramps 2moz to get a better look and decide if its a DIY job or a garage job then. BTW posted this on here and fiesta turbo at the same time and no bugger has replied on there yet lol this is such a more helpfull site :D

Got the new hose on and filled the system up after draining it. Found a new leaknow :x , and it seems to be coming from the side of the block. Its coming from the left hand side as you look at the engine and it starts from about half way down. Its leaking coolant mixture not oil so what do you guys think about it this time?? Very annoyed as id hoped the car would be working 100% again after changing the hose . I been driving the car and it doesnt overheat or anythin but i havent been drivin hard just sticking to speed limits in high gears to keep the revs down incase the head gasket is starting to go.

is it actualy coming from the block itself?

if so you may have cracked the block :(

you could repair it using that liquid weld stuff.. that will seal things up for a while

best bet is to replace the block though i would say

Cracked block/headgasket by sound of it.
TBH it'll probably work out cheaper to source a secondhand engine than repair yours.
maybe look for a 2.0?
