As i said the other week, one of my rear arches had a big chunk out of it.. its not flaking anymore as ive got all of the shit off it, i need to get it sorted tho before the xr2i skirts n arches obviously.. Can i just filler this in with fiberglass filler and respray around that area or what? I cant afford to get some body shop to do loads to it, and my mate doesnt fancy cutting a chunk out and weidling another arch on it.. So im hoping my idea of fiberglass is a good idea? It will get covered with the arches soon, but could do with a decent arch to screw and glue it onto.. Thats another thing, the 2i arches, can i just screw them into the arches with screws??? wont this just make the rust eventually? ![]() cheers again |

treat the rust with zinc paint or hammeriteantisuperderusterstuff, then filler it, why not, this was fine on a mates old mk2 for the mot, plus you'll be covering it up, my kit is glued on with tiger seal and nothing has flew off yet so i guess its good, i wouldn't screw it mate. |

back again ![]() reet.. the arch is now got quite abit of the lip missing now and the whole thing needs to be cut off.. my passenger side rear arch is bubbeling so i will grind that down and see what happens.. so does anyone reckon this will work?.... cut the rust out the arch completely.. weld up the seam of the arch and primer it with that stuff then paint it and then stick my 2i kit on.. doing that then means i dont have to make a new arch lip and mess about, but then the problem is fixed and you cant see it cause of the 2i kit.. good idea? ![]() ![]() |

Well this morning i got up, and decided.. yep lets get this rust sorted.. So after finding some near my rear arch next to my light, i took my rear bumper off, finding that where the rear valance is welding on is mostly rust and bubbles.. So i went around sanding down the rust and bubbles along the back of the car, and sticking some rust removal gel on while i did the rest of the car.. so not too bad, just get the back bits welding back together.. Got on with the major problemed arch, took the sanding paper to it and didnt do much, so got the grinder out.. i was worried about this but i got the hang of it and started getting the arch lip rust cut off, after doing that it looks like all we need to do is treat it and weld up the two bits together.. and if i werent going to put the 2i kit on i could actually rebuild the arch and would look alright i think!! I went grinding the whole of the arch lip because i noticed more bubbling, got it all back down to metal, but some of the inner arch lip is now missing cause of the corrosion.. Found a couple of bubbles in the paint work and grinded that down, removed the carpet and sound deadening from inside the side of the boot above the arch and found 2 tiny holes in the car, treated the inside and wire brushed all the shite off.. bought some P40 filler i think it is so i can bridge the hole after i have removed all the rust from around the holes.. Same again on the corner of the car, tiny holes into the boot.. ![]() Sprayed with anti rust primer and now im at work ![]() Still have to grind the passenger rear arch down, as i thought if im going to spend all this time getting rid of the rust i might as well got on and do it all before i put the 2i kit on the car.. Have a slight problem under the boot seal in one place, but maybe i can get that welded up seomhow.. Also one of the light fixtures had abit of rust, if i cant get rid of that i will just get them both replaced. And grinded a big patch of bubbling on my passenger door, might end up cutting that out and welding a plate in and fillering as its abit odd.. Well after all that, i think i have faith im my fiesta, after abit of work into it.. i think it will survive much longer.. i might not do it all perfect but as long as it stops the rust im going to be happy.. i noticed how much of a rot box my car is when you start looking for the problems.. well probably my fault as i knew about some bits last year and never got round to doing them ![]() Will post some pictures when i can be bothered ![]() |
