Ok, after years of driving a Renault Laguna, I decided paying a fortune in fuel costs and insurance costs was not a good idea.
I bough meself a reasonably priced (£250) L plate Fiesta Si. It ran great for a day or two, then began to run rough.
During a journey of about 2 miles total, the engine began to run lumpy, with no acceleration. Almost as if a cylynder had gone.
It cut out and upon attempting to start would only rev once and cut out again. It did this every time I turned the key. It would not idle at all. litterally it would rev upon turning the key, then cut out.
I got the car home by holding down the accelerator, whereby the engine would rev then back off, then rev and back off continually, all the while my foot is too the floor. I used the clutch and slipped it enough to get me home (10 mins away).
I read through this forum and through fiesta turbo forum for similar symptoms and found that it may be the MAF sensor.
I disconnected my MAF sensor and the car started
But, it runs a bit richer than it did.
If I reconnect the MAF sensor, the car cuts out with the same symptoms as before...
So I bought another MAF sensor (from a running car, 1.6i Zetec, same as mine). Fitted it, connected it, tried to start the car.....the rev and cuttout that was the same with the old MAF sensor returned
Disconnected the MAF sensor again, car runs fine but rich.
I say fine, but at about 4-5k revs, there is a period of either missfiring which feels like flooded pistons (like when ya try to push-start a car, the resistance felt before the engine fires. The compression I suppose....)
So, I believe the MAF sensor to have died, but the replacement gives the same symptoms.
Can anyone please point me in the right direction to fix this car?
There are other things wrong with it (irregular / intermittent failure of front indicator, nearside....and no, its not supposed to do it..lol
which is not the bulb (earth? wiring? etc?) but I will ask about them later...
Please help?
