bitches... ill keep this simple, clamped the pipe in the flaring kit thing, got the flaring tool, however as i turn the bit that flares the pipe, it just pushes the pipe out... YES i have tightened it, a lot, to the point where it wont tighten anymore. can anybody shed any light on this? thanks |

I have read that bending and re flaring the standard ford pipes is a right bitch! It may be that the pipe is too strong for your tool as the ford pipes aren't made from the same malleable stuff as the replacement shit you buy. Just persevere slowly mate. May be worth trying a bit of electrical tape round it where it's held in the tool to try and get a better grip?!? |

Are you using a metric or imperial flair clamp as I had similar problem with a cheap metric one, also as said above made more for doing flairs on soft copper pipe not re-flairing original pipe if that is what you are trying, alternative is to replace pipe to first existing joinr |

yeah i saw that but i dont have the time or money to be messing around witht hat. i know the unions are pretty close to where i want to flare, but ill just persist with the original one. if that fails, then yes, ill have to invest! thanks will |

When I replaced all the brake lines on an Escort the copper pipe I bought to do the job was only £8 and there was enough to do the whole car. It does mean more work involved, but it's a piece of piss to do. Take the old ones off whilst keeping their original shape and use a bending tool to copy it. But it does seem your problem is the fact that the original pipes are stronger than the copper replacement ![]() |

Don't forget that the rear brake pipes have unions just before they disappear into the exhaust tunnel, so you don't have to drop the whole bottom of the car if you replace the pipe as Des says. |

Dont fret about it though dude, it really is simple, just a bit time consuming. At least you know its all fresh then and you dont have the worry of them rusting anywhere in the near future. |

Like I say though, its only 8 quid a roll last time I bought some. Just dont forget to put the unions on the pipe before you shape and flare ![]() |
