I find putting a large funnel in and filling it until the funnel is brimmed up is the best way.
Gives you a little bit in reserve

Just fill it until it started coming out the oil cap. Then you know it's full :-) |

Guys, guys. You forgot that 4 litres needs pouring over the outside of the engine. Make sure it gets everywhere Ben, but not a drop must go on the floor, otherwise you'll have to put another 4 litres on. |

luckily i did this! good job. i bought two, and thank god i did as i had enough to do the gearbox and all should run sweet as a nut now.

Engine oil works well to cool the gearbox down - which means smoother gear changes and less friction so the car accelerates faster. If you can afford a litre or so of baby oil, that works even better in the gearbox! It's not good enough for the engine though as thats under a lot more stress, but I think if you add a bit of corn starch to thinken it up a bit, it should be fine. But don't add too much otherwise it will go gloopy and not be effective enough to protect your engine. |

Wut? You put 5w40 in a gearbox that's means to take like 70w90 or something? I have a 5 litre tub of it in my shed can't remember the exact number I put in the zs lol |

No banter here. I've put cornflour in through Clio gearbox with the top up I just did! Is that a bad thing? |

Well Danny was the only one being serious. Threw me off a bit. Did wonder how you would have been able to tell gearbox oil wasn't thick enough, you'll just pour it in and hope for the best! |

Yup! 10w/30. Honda recommends to use it temporarily though, but I have heard of people using it for 10-20,000 miles no problem
