i got that poly flex stuff that ry used on his mounts. not with the zetec mounts, theyre not that easy to take apart. so if i tape off the bottom and lie them flat, then fill the spaces and gaps, it wont in anyway weaken the mount? eg it wont restrict movement, it will literally stiffen it up and help keep the engine steadier?

thanks, Ben

Yes.

It WILL restrict movement. That's the point, less movement, more stable and solid.

You will regret doing this Ben, just to let you know.

The car will vibrate like fuck. I had 'hard' aftermarket gearbox mounts for a few days before they softened up - very annoying to say the least. The car vibrated, the inside vibrated, there was an annoying brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr noise where everything was vibrating too.

Solid engine mounts everywhere - jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez you'll love that lol

Yeah do the gearbox ones - because it'll help keep them hard and not break as easy. Can I suggest one thing? Put the engine in first, leave the mounts as they are for now, get it running, make sure everything is smooth and make sure nothing is vibrating while everything is standard - then take a day or two at a later date to make them hard if you want to. Only reason I say that is because if you make the mounts hard and it vibrates, it could actually be covering another problem and you might not notice it.

Last thing you want in a worst case scenario is an unbalanced engine to be vibrating away destroying itself when you think 'its ok its only the mounts'... There is a 99.9% that wont be the case, but personally I would rather make sure everything is sound first then go making the mounts hard :)

ok nice one Danny :) will do just that. however, the mounts i have for the gearbox are solid block ones? the ones on my old box are the ones i think you are both relating to?

Yeah you will have zetec style mounts on your old box, the solid block ones will be fine - probably just an ebay alternative. They should do the job fine though.

One stiffer mount will make other "lesser" mounts wear out quicker, though this is over a long period of time and dependant on how stiff the lower engine mount will be. For instance with my car, the uprated lower gearbox mount has killed my brand new standard torque mounts (less than 6k!) and since knocking the sump twice the other week, they've had it now. So something to be aware of.
