Ok so my clutch has gotten to the point where I'm carrying TWO spare clutch cables. Do the driveshafts need modifying with an mtx75 mondeo gearbox, or can some mondeo clutches and flywheels fit my 1.6 16v zetec straight away (especially if I can get a hydraulic version)? I think my transmission is getting worn after nearly 130,000 miles anyway so all options considered! |

you won't need an mtx75 box on a 1.6 best is to get another bc box |

The fact you are snapping cables left right and centre means you are fitting them wrong. Driveshafts need to be modified/swapped I think. You'll also have to get mounting brackets for them too iirc. The gearbox shouldn't be 'worn' at all unless you cant change gear properly. |

I'm fitting them right, not rocket science. I make sure they are clipped into the bracket under the servo too. They snap in different places, usually through the bulkhead (around 5 inches down the cable at pedal rest) and the end. Greased them up to make sure as well. The clutch pedal is incredibly heavy which points to either the release bearing or clutch itself. When it does snap on pedal down, I can't actually move my leg back up for about ten seconds, that's how much force I have to use. I also get whining grinding noise that is truly speed related. I'm pretty sure the boy racer who owned the car before didn't know how to drive. |

Sounds like something clutch related is wrong then. What I would personally do is whip the gearbox off, put a new clutch kit in, disassemble all of the clutch fork and connecting rods ect, grease them all up and make sure they move freely. Then stick it back in. But before you do all of that, stick a lever bar/trolley jack bar between the clutch fork and gearbox as if you are doing to take the clutch cable out of the clutch fork end and push the clutch fork arm in. It should go fairly easy. If it does, then work your way back to the pedal because the clutch end is fine. If its stiff as a rock, then gearbox off jobby and get it greased up. |

Well I'm going to replace the whole clutch, just to make sure. One thing I'm wondering about though, ib5's can replace bc boxes, and ib5's can have hydraulic clutches, so why not an ib5 clutch and hydraulic setup, inside a bc box? Or even just an ib5 hydraulic slave cylinder instead of the standard release bearing with the bc box modified to suit? Sorry if I'm just splurging shite out of my brain here... |

Why would you want to modify a bc box when you can buy an ib5 which is already hydraulic? |

Because I'd have to change more than the box wouldn't I? |

Probably, but thats what modifying cars is about. I'm sure google will chuck up some results for all the questions you have ![]() |
