my brother has got a mk3 escort and recently he put a magnex 4-1 manifold on my car and put a new starter motor on the car as well. since then the car fails to start once he have drove it for a while it goes to tick over but wont turn over quick enough. it sounded like the battery was going dead but put a pair of jump leads on it and it still fails to turn over quick enough. if you leave the car for 10 minutes the car will start of the first key. wondering if the starter is over heating due to the manifold and if so whats the best way of stopping it ? |

Sounds like you hit the nail on the head with the starter getting too hot. Solution would be to wrap the manifold AND starter motor in exhaust wrap to keep as much heat away as possible. |

I get sticky hot starter motor problems after ive been out blapping it on boost (everything gets hot), on the previous engine i gave the starter motor a dolop of engine oil down the shaft and double wrapped it in heat wrap, worked a charm, unfortunately the gypsies stole it when i left it on my drive over night to fit to current car, doh |
