Hi to all, completely new to this sort of thing.

I just bought a 1995 Ford Fiesta si. only got 39000 on the clock.

I have bought some Mondeo 16" alloys for it and need to find out how to fit them...

I put them on the car and they made scary noises, as you can probably tell I havn't got much mechanical knowledge.

Think i need spacers, but havn't got a clue where to start...
NEED HELP, Thanks :|

Is the car standard or lowered?

What size tyres are on the wheels?

Do you know the offset of the wheels? (usually under centre cap) Normally they are all the same, but some are wider than others, its rare though.

When did it make scary noises?

Currently the car is standard. In the future want to put some coilovers on it...

the tyres are 195/45R16

Under the cap it says 61/2J x 16H2 with ET40

The noise was when i put the wheels on originally, couldnt pinpoint which wheel, it was a knocking noise that increased and decreased with speed.

getting scared i took them off and replaced the steel wheels...

safety first'n'all :)

If its a knocking noise, its sounds like some part of the suspension/steering is at fault.

Your steelies may be hiding it slightly due to bigger tyres - softer ride.

But of course, without hearing the noise its sometimes hard to tell you exactly what it is. Could be a completely different knocking sound to what I may be thinking off!

When taking the steelies off i saw that the larger mondeo alloys were rubbing.

went and bought some 9.5mm spacers and they seem to fit perfectly. no rubbing or noises any more.....

step two is getting it lowered. the only ones that i can seem to find in my price range is some FK Highsport coilovers.

the other ones are the gaz coilovers, but at £500 a tad too much.... Any Suggestions???

Cheers :P

60mm lowering springs that may pop up for sale somewhere. pretty sure HappyPaul has some 50mms for sale.

my suggestion would be to get some 15" escorts, same but will look much better and go lower easier!

All sorts of lowering kits around.

Depends if you want springs, shocks + springs or coilovers.

Can't go wrong with a GAZ setup.

As said, 15" gti wheels is a better option :)

Also, 9.5mm spacers? I hope you extended the threads on the hubs!

Ermm, nope, the alloys fit just not a great deal of thread left...

so how do you extend the threads ?

Its got to be coilovers for suspension upgrade.... as money is tight think ill go for the cheaper FK's rather than the Gaz ones.

You can buy the studs off eBay. I did this to ensure I got the wheels on as I had to add 8-9mm in spacers and the original studs didn't reach through!

Just buy some extended studs from rally design or something, knock the old ones out and put the new ones in.

Never heard of FK before. Might be worth a look for 2nd hand AVO's or something.
