Right. where to start... bloke in the garage near me is re tapping the thread on one of my coilovers for tomorrow... so i built up the rears... spot on.... came to the other front coilover which is sound thread wise etc and im having issues... i need a spanner for startes with an angle so i can tighten it up as i cnt find my 19mm spanner anywhere... but, if i do manage to get it tightened up it doesnt seem like there will be enough thread coming out of the top anyway... not sure if the strut tops are incorrect etc but ill let you look at the pics to see if everything seems ok... bearing in its housing ![]() with this, it seems there are ridges where different shaped springs can fit i think... not sure if this is restricting the nut to go down further? ![]() ![]() built up, if i push down and put all my weight on it there is hardly any thread coming out. ![]() ![]() ![]() just want them on lol ![]() ![]() |

Do you not use spring compressors then on these? |

no, just wind the collar down and theres no compression then ![]() |

Well wind it down then, looks like theres still a good inch to go or is that just the darkness of the photo? Paul |

True, however... this next picture is where the bearing is sitting at the bottom of the thread ![]() it has nowhere else to go! i will need more thread than that! maybe theres something in there i dont need? sooo lost |

Don't you need to compress the springs down so you can get lots of thread? |

You must be doing something wrong Ben. When I refurbished my AVO's I had loads of thread ![]() Although, I had a small amount before I tightened it all up properly. ![]() You shouldn't need spring compressors, dont think I used any. Just in case you need it, picture of mine stripped down: ![]() Assembly: Bottom adjustment collar > Spring > Top collar > Suspension cup > Little nut. |

yeah exactly what im doing! ive wound the collar all the way to the bottom so theres no pressure of the spring. i need a spanner at an angle to be able to tighten the nut in the cup... thats where im stuck... |

1. From what i can see from the pics, your putting it together in the wrong order? - obviously start with the shock - height adjuster on - then spring. - then spring mounting, - then bearing, - then top cup - then bolt (make sure you use the thinner avo one) from the pic it looks like you are trying to put bearing in before then spring mount? 2. You need one of these : ![]() I still had to grind a bit off mine to make it sit in properly. |
