Hey guys I’m going to be mating my 1.8 head with a 2.0 bottom end for my fiesta but I’m unsure on a few things on fleebay I can only find black top engines from mondeos so before I end up losing patience and buying one do these match up at all? i know it will raise the compression ratio and also i will have to use a different head gasket i think from a st 170 if i remember rightly also how big a problem is it with sticking valves? I will be forging the engine for reliability reasons so would fitting the 2.0 valves work? any help would be much appreciated as I’m still very much a novice with ford engines and I don’t want to make a arse of it and loose out money on stupid mistakes ![]() |

if you are using a early 'silver top' 2 litre bottom end then i would stick with a matching silver top head as silvertop have hydraulic tappets compared to later black top shimmed ones, however i assume it may work ok as have seen the better flowing ST170 heads used on a 2 litre silvertop bottom end. Also whilst fitting a 1.8 head will increase compression, if you are fitting forged pistons etc i would say a better way is fit a 2 litre head and propper high compression pistons |

Ok thanks i found a mondeo breaking but it is a GHIA but its a 2.0 16v so im guessing its a zetec e sliver top engine it has and i will be converting to run throttle bodies with the conversion i just though of trying somthing different as ive only really dealt with jap turbos so id like to see what it be like to have a matted head and bottom end with throttle bodies and forged intenals and a strong crank but im still doing a lot of research into the process when i get time off work |

as you say worth while doing some good research first into plans, as when looking at forged pistons etc can end up spending a fair bit of money, normally the standard zetec cranks are quite good, with just an upgrade to ARP bolts what power output are you looking to achieve? |

Im looking to achieve around 200 bhp with the forged internals, throttle bodies, stainless steel exhuast, cams, custom exhaust manifold, ect i think burton power do crank for the 2.0 but cant remeber im looking to make the car pritty realiable so i can take it out to shows and track days and some times to work and back |

my 2litre is currently conservative 173bhp and has been built on a budget of about £900-£1000+ Rolling road mapping costs, in hind sight 180bhp would have been quite achievable for the same price with different cams, However the magical 200bhp can cost significantly more. I would do research and cost it all out and see if the extra worth it |

Well ive priced up most of the parts i need its more and likely going to be a more lengthy process than i first thought as i want to do most of the work myself i have found a 2.0 silvertop so going to have to find a place to store it first so i can start stripping it |
