Righty ho, So, dropped the 2.0ltr in and its not running right. It's misfiring throughout the rev range, but most noticable at idle. Misfire at cold and warm. Been out tonight and tried a few things, as follows: 1) replaced HT leads - No change 2) replaced coil pack - No change 3) replaced TPS - No change 4) checked hose from PCV to inlet sandwich - replaced hose with slightly better fitting one - No change 5) Unplugged ECU Coolant temp sensor and cleaned 6) tried unplugging injector wiring whilst engine running cyl 1 - engine stopped cyl 2 - no change cyl 3 - engine struggled and nearly stalled cyl 4 - engine stopped Therefore pointing to Cylinder 2 as the cause of misfire. 7) moved onto plugs cylinder 2 was covered in black soot - implying over rich/no comp I believe 8) cleaned and swapped plugs from cylinder 1 and 2 - Still missing but retried injector plugs cyl 1 - struggled but didnt stall cyl 2 - struggled a bit but didnt stall cyl 3 - engine struggled and nearly stalled cyl 4 - engine stopped During all of the above, any plug that was unplugged had WD-40 sprayed in it also. It is running a bit better than when I started but still nowhere near where it should be. So, it looks like the plugs may be a bit dodgy, they are FoMoCo ones from my Si, so done 20-30k and due a change, but maybe also compression. Going to go to Halfords tomorrow and buy plugs and a compression tester. Does anyone have experience of the Gunson one Halfords sell, does it work ok with the Zetec? Also, does anyone have any clues to look for the cause of sooty plugs should the compression come out ok (fingers crossed ![]() Sorry for the long winded post, but wanted to get down everything in one place. Cheers Paul |

The gunston works fine, just check its got correct thread, take all plugs out and open throttle fully when testing, first place as you say is plugs, other thing could be is dodgy injector |

Hi Will, cheers for the reply, am I correct in thinking that it is a 10mm thread I need for the Zetec? Injector had been playing on my mind as they came with the engine and I didn't know if they worked. In order to test the injector can I use the ones from my 1.6 or will it run pants with that too? What is the best way to get the injectors out of the rail? They seem to be stuck in like a good un!! Cheers Paul |

The compression testers will either be for petrol or diesel, diesel ones require a MUCH higher compression scale. Just had a look and that Gunson one is fine, has an adaptor for the 14 or 18mm sizes which are the common sizes. You will be 14mm ![]() |

I would change spark plugs, if no change, then as said, injectors could be worth looking into. I would just swap one injector for another, so if its missing on 2, swap it for 1,3 or 4, and see if it misses on the one its now been swapped too. If that doesnt sort the problem, could be a wiring fault. To get the injector out, should just be a case of removing the two bolts (8mm i think) that holds them in, and pull them out - might require a bit of a twist too if they are stuck in there. |

Well, gapped and put in new plugs, didn't fix it although did run a bit better. Went to do a comp test but wouldn't fit in hole, no idea why!?! Noticed plugs 1-3 were showing signs of se but 4 looked brand new. Reconnected all and pulled no4 injector lead no difference at all so fault appeared to ha e shifted. Swappe coil pack back to old one and made sure everything was in place. Fire up and would you believe it, she's alive!!! Fuck me she's fast ![]() Cheers for all your help guys, kept me sane whilst trying to figure it out. In true fiesta fashion though she has put a split in a coolant hose!! Doh! It's te one coming off the water pump an all so that'll be a pain in the arse to change with te pas pump in te way but never mind ![]() Paul |

Glad shes alive ![]() ![]() ![]() That hose is a bitch to do, I've had to do that one before, the harest part is getting at the clip where it clips to the water pump, and doing that clip back up again can be a bitch. Hope you get it sorted though! |

Yeah, ford shoulda made it 2.0 ltr from the start!! Yeah, but I've got the jubilee sitting so I can get at it from through the pas pump so I hope it's ok!! Just gotta hope ford has one or can get it soon. Might stick a bit of duct tape on tomorrow as a temp fix. And maybe not cane the spuds off it lol ![]() Pail |

Duck tape will only hold as a temp if the leak is very minor, just make sure you take some water with you if you go out ![]() |

Good stuff that you've got it sorted ![]() But what do you mean it won't fit in the hole in relation to the compression tester? Do you mean the thread was too big for it to screw into the spark plug hole? |

Hi Des, No the thread looked good compared to the plugs and it had plenty reach into the cylinder head but it jus wouldn't catch on the threads. Don't know if it was clashing with the head around the thread as it was dark an there isn't much room to see in there anyway?!? Paul |
