Obviously it wasn't just an old one replaced last time a couple of months ago. What in a clutch, gearbox or engine could cause this? The clutch itself is heavy enough to cause my leg to want to keep straightening after a few gear changes. Ideas? I'm dreading the fact I may have to drop the gearbox off but if it needs doing so be it. |

Must be the clutch kit you have I know when I had a black diamond "race" clutch kit, it was very heavy on the pedal and eventually snapped the ratchet so best to go for a standard or like luk or similar. If you want I have a brand new ford genuine clutch cable you can have for a tenner posted?? |

where did the cable snap? if at the gearbox lever nipple has it in the grove correctly and well greased up? as if it sticks in the lever will pull against the nipple at an angle, i have a Helix clutch which is very heavy and not had a problem with cables although i have modofied the plastic ratchet pedel adjuster. |

First one snapped at the bend through the bulkhead. This one snapped at the lever end. As far as I know I have a standard clutch. RAC man reckons it could be the release bearing or a heavy pressure plate. |

It is a common thing on these cars to snap, ive been through 2 already in the last 2 years. Could be my own fault for not greasing up the lever end though. Strange for your clutch to be that heavy though, I would say the pressure plate is the reason if anything. |

I snapped quite a few clutch cables. So far so good after I changed to a earlier lever on the gearbox. I used a old escort one. As said though if the nipple sits in at angle it's going to eventually snap |

Well I was thinking of switching to an old type lever and going hydraulic. Found a master cylinder, just need a slave and bracket. |

sounds like its the rachet and pawl on the pedal at fault, mine snapped 2 genuine cables, found out it was the adjuster at maximum reach and was flexing the cable on itself until it snapped |
