yeah groaning noise or grinding will be worse on corner if you can jack it up do that then check for play top to bottom and side to side put both hands on wheel and wiggle it |

Yeah you can usually hear it. Do what 32couple said, also put your hand on the hub/strut or something connected to the wheel and give it a spin and listen to it while feeling for roughness. Normally the play gives it away depending how bad it is though. Do you suspect front or back has gone? |

At a garage yes but doing it yourself no, just tricky sometimes. |

rear bearings are easy but front bearings need to be pressed in ![]() |

The bearing is about £35 then you'll have labour. (Well a rear bearing for a ZS just to give you an idea) |

Post subject: | Re: wheel bearing |
Hmm, could I press it in myself with the right tool? Sounds pricey chris |

Post subject: | Re: wheel bearing |
Nah you need an actual press to do it, no other way to be fair. |

I hate doing wheel bearings. If you want to save on labour, take the hub off the car, and take it with a wheel bearing to a garage and just get them to press it in while you wait. Take it home, put it all back together, jobs a good 'un! |

Hmm, sounds like a plan, however when i turn corners it's fine :s il have to check for play to get a proper diagnosis! Easy to take the hub apart? |

Post subject: | Re: wheel bearing |
Hubs aint toooooo hard to take apart to be fair, just nuts and bolts ![]() |

Post subject: | Re: wheel bearing |
Yeah not hard at all. Just look at what's attached, and take it all off. Hardest part is seperating it from the lower ball joint without damaging the rubber, but it's doable with a hammer and some leverage as opposed to a ball joint seperator. So what's on there, er, brake calipers, brake discs, track rod, suspension, and seperate it from the ball joint. Not too hard at all... |

Lmao! If there's play in the wheel I'll get it sorted, if not then sound! |
