Post subject:  ECU-checked, ICV-checked. Now this....

Need double check my ECU. Basically I have my dodgy idle confined to the MAF or ECU.

Sorted out the air filter but still running bad.
Unplugged the MAF and it ran well, while running plugged the MAF back in and instantly rough again.

Need to make sure and been putting this off but I really can't anymore.

Help greatly appreciated.

Post subject:  Re: How to pull ECU out?

start in the engine bay top passanger side undo the two iirc 8mm bolts where the wiring loom goes into the ecu
remove the wireing loom cover and undo the iirc 10mm bolt in the centre of the loom connector and remove the connector

now in the passnager foot well there is a cage that holds the ecu in place loosen the cage bolt and you can pull the ecu out

Harder then I thought. Thanks for the directions :)

Post subject:  Re: How to pull ECU out?

ok so having a problem. Decided to guinea pig this on another car and it appears there is a panel over where I assume the ECU wires are. (before the new ECU arrives)
My dad had no problem getting to it but for the life of me I can't get the studs at the top off.
The metal panel is held on with 3 screws in the lower left hand side (easy enough) then up the top near the rubber there are 2 round studs. I can't get them off.
This panel is just behind where the jack normally sits, this is the correct place to get to the wiring loom isn't it?

Pictures of the area I'm talking about.

Also which of these is the Idle control valve? the top or the bottom one? (thought I'd soak it in Carb cleaner just as a precaution. If I'm doing the MAF and ECU I'll do this too)

Post subject:  Re: How to pull ECU out? also which one is the ICV?

they are pop rivets and will have ti be drilled out
icv is the botom one
the top one is the throttle position sensor

Ok just to check the ICV is the one at the very bottom (not the black box at the top right hand side, or the green thing top left hand side) :)

Ok drill it out it is

Green one is to do with PAS
Black is TPS
And the greyish one is your ISCV

And yeah, pop rivvets need to be drilled out ;)

Yay this car really is making me jump through hoops :/

So would it be ok to cut the wires (about 1/2 way down) with the now broken clip and wire them onto a piece with a working and fixed clip?

At least the wires are good (thought I may as well check)

yeah that should be fine but you might be best soldering the wires back if you can if not use good quality clips to join them

Looks like a job for my long weekend off then :)
My dad has all the soldering stuff in his tool room so soldering is easy enough.
he also has the shrink wrap coating for the wires (wrap it round - heat it up and it seals the wire off) so its best if I wait till then as it can be soldered and have an air tight seal all at once.
