yeah i recently had it washed at a local petrol station by a hand wash company(gentlemen from another country)
they used 1 of them pressure washer things maybe thats it , but i will definatly check my plugs

..in a way it does chris, if it was missfiring, i.e not running on all cylinders, there would/could of been build up of unburnt fuel, which when the coil pack / specific ht lead dried out, produced a spark which in turn burnt all that previous unburnt fuel, which in turn created a rather large puff of smoke due to the overfueling. on the other hand, there may of beena block in the cat / exaust system which would explain back pressure on the engine running rough, and then finally a puff of smoke - although this isnt that likely, if you get a minute check the cats condition, and if you get a spare half hour take it completely off and check its not broken up - you might get away with banging your fist on the cat to listen for any rattling / signs that the cat is dead. other theorys could include breaking up of ht leads under load, ive still not found a brilliant way to check HT leads, but for the sake of a tenner they can be changed along with spark plugs - my recommendation would be NGK plugs, never had a faulty one yet. and after this essay i'd say your car is fine, if it happens again and again just think of how cheap things are to replace for trial and error. (plugs, leads, dizzy cap - does the fez have an electronic dizzy cap?, sensors, coil pack) etc |
