Post subject: | Brakes causing imbalance?? |
Evening. Anyways, Ive always had some sort of shaking with the mondeo since I got it Standard wanky wheels I blamed, and I changed to the 17's anyway Replaced loads of things for the MOT and had the 17s balanced, but the Mondeo has always shaked at motorway speeds... Seems to be from the rear as its not the steering wheel shaking, andcan feel it through the seat. Ive now gone back to the wanky 15's and have had them balanced up and checked over... now the shaking isnt as bad as the 17s, but its still there at 65mph+ I have started thinking about the things it could be and pinpointed these two ideas... 1- Front discs are slightly warped, would this cause any shake while not in use? 2 - Rear drums were looking crap when I changed the shoes, I grinded them down and painted them... by doing this, would I have fucked the balance of the drums causing the shakes?? Any help will be great as its one of them things that does my head in on the motorway!! Paul |

It's possible both causes you have suggested may cause it, though it's more likely with the current state of the roads, a nice bump damaged the bearings in the rear. |

Ahh, well if it could be rear bearings I will just change the front discs/pads and live with it ![]() |

Woah, you do realise they'll shake themselves to bits over time? Sure you want a rear wheel to fall off at 70mph? |

doubt the drums would be causing that is it shaking when you brake cant see it been the brakes if its shaking at high speed, there is a few things to check though mate make sure the hubs nuts are tight all rear anti roll bars are ok and check the top shock mount bearings as they can cause a shake, after that you have to start looking at driveshafts and diff in the gearbox because we had an escort which we thought had a problem at the rear turned out to be the diff in the box worth checking mate |
