Hi guys just a quickie. My handbrake warning light has started coming on if I'm going down a steep decline or if I brake heavily. Any ideas why it would be doing it? I thought it was just a cable to the rear drums so cant be anything to do with the brake fluid. But can't think what it could be or if it is catching on something? Starting to get a bit worried as it's happening quite alot now... ![]() |

That warning light also works off the brake fluid level. There's a plug on the lid of the reservoir in the engine bay, this detects the level. When you brake heavy, or go downhill, the fluid moves away from the sensor and will be "low" to the sensor. Park on a level surface and check the brake fluid level. Top it up. It also works off a switch located just under the handbrake lever, so when driving, just lift your handbrake ever so slightly to see how sensitive it is. But it sounds like your fluid level is low to me. |

Yeah, if the fluid is going down below the sensor it could well be that your brakes have worn down loads. Or worst case you have a leak somewhere. Might be the cylinders in the drums. |
