hissing noise coming from inlet area

hi guys,
wondered if someone could help me, i have a 1.4 8v Si and recently its been running rough.
It has a dramatic loss of power now (50mph flat out) and a hissing sound coming from the inlet maninifold area, but no1 can seem to find any leaks or anything. I need some help asap and its gettin worse and worse, i dont want to lose my Si

sounds initially like a air leak to me, good way to find out if it is, is to spray WD40 or easy start around the inlet area and see if the revs rise, if it does definatly an air leak somewhere

As mentioned try the above, if it is then take it off and check the gasket etc and refit.

check your vacum hoses are not split

have tried spraying around the inlet but nothings happening, will check the vacuum hoses tho, i just hope it isnt major.

try a new inlet gasket :thumbsup:

may have just found the problem, the noise has been gettin worse and now the noise can be heard just on tick over and it seems to be coming from the exhaust. Noticed there isnt any pressure coming out the back, so my guess is the cat is blocked and its forcing the air back up??

Could be something to do with your EGR, i have the same problem... although mine is coming from the release valve.

anyone know what causes the cat to block? why would the inside collapse?

thanks for the help, it was the cat collapsed, i got a new one for £60, all fitted now and all power is back
