Ok so as you all know I have had issues with a flickering battery light. Today it stopped! I was quite happy with that. On the way home from work it tried to stall and the battery light began a faint glow... You guessed it stereo went. Turned everything off and managed to get home. Parked it turned it off tried to turn it on nothing ![]() the stream of obscenities that have come out of my mouth today was unbelievable. Now weird thing is if I leave it for 5 minutes it will reluctantly start ![]() Won't go very far and I can't use electrics but the bugger does start (magic charging) Is this signs of a duff battery perhaps or have I managed to get hold of a second duff alternator. After this is sorted I'm seriously gonna get rid of this car. I've had enough now. I've fixed so much and it keeps popping up with new issues. Pile of crap. Waiting on KF homestart now hopefully they can diagnose the issue at least. My dad is also bringing a battery charger and stand alone jump starter up for use with getting me to work tomorrow. I shall then be staying at my parents and using the train until its at least reliable again. |

battery it sounds like u know when u start it goes it take a bit to start if so sounds like the battery my moms was doing it yesterday changed the battery and (grap wood fast) it works see if there is still water in the battery if thats does than that may be why it is loosing its charge but if you have a volt tester and see what the battery is making off then put it on and see wht it is them with lights on to see if the alternator hope this help rob |

This definitely is a battery or wiring issue. I'd start tracing everything, because if it's not the battery the problem could be on ANY contact, or even broken in the wire itself. I've also heard of wires getting too close to fans/starters/hot bits and having problems. Does the wiring have the triangle setup on the battery positive, starter motor terminal and the alternator? |

Sorry for the lateness of my reply. KF homestart did come out and they checked it. The alternator has given up ![]() The wiring seems to be ok as its all intact and the point I di take apart and clean up when I checked at an earlier date (the blue wire that goes alternator > starter motor > battery) Managed to jump it with the stand alone jumper I have and get it to my parents with my dad driving behind me just incase. It dropped revs about 6 times but didn't stall until I parked outside. By then the battery had completly knackered itself and was all but useless. Battery off. Alternator off. Phoned up a few places today and ordered a new alternator (recon + 1 year garentee £73 with old one in p/x) and a new battery for £40. Mother is picking the bits up for me tomorrow as they had to be ordered in and I'm at work for majority of the day. Shall fit them tomorrow night ![]() If it dies on me after all thats done then I'll have to take all the wiring off completly and have at it. |

bearings had gone in both alternators. Thats what the squealing noise was coming from. New alternator cleared that up. Light still on... ...but found a burnt wire cleared up the burnt bit reconnected and insulted it properly and light has gone ![]() also new battery as the one in the car was too big and actually belonged in a vauxhall. It cost me a little but for peace of mind its worth it ![]() edit to add: light comes on with ignition as it should do then goes off after its fired up before anyone asks that ![]() |
