Ok so I have a rust patch on the passenger side by the door protectors. Its by the rubbers that run around the inside where the rain water drains round (It was wet when I found the rust due to cleaning the car, I'm OTT and do the inside of the doors as well) Its only surface at the moment but has eaten the paint there. Its about the size of a £2 coin. I was wondering best way to stop this now. Its not a visible patch so I don't mind DIY'ing it and painting it myself as the door sits a top it when closed. Dependent on how this works out I'm thinking of attempting the bit on the bottom of the drivers door and the one that sits just above/ below the plastic bit on the front arch (have peeked behind the arch and its not eaten it yet!) None of the patches are worse then surface so I need to get them now before it gets worse. Ah also if I was to jack the car up clean and sand the arches/seals a bit to get any dirt or rusty bits sorted then put hammerite over them would it help protect these areas as I know they are very vulnerable to rust. P.S Will post pictures of said patches tomorrow night. |

number one rust killer is very good .. but when i did my fiesta i used this stuff i was also OTT My rust Protection Rustisol is unique: This is the only rust protection currently available with a pH of 7 which can be directly applied to rust and which also combines with existing rust to form a permanent protective layer or coating. Rustisol rather than being a rust converter is a completely original combination of active substances which make it fundamentally different from all acid based rust converters. Whereas the usual rust converters contain acids of strengths ranging from 0.5 to 3.2 Rustisol is completely neutral at a pH of 7 and combines with the rust to produce a ferro-organic-acid-free coating which gives complete protection against further corrosion. Rustisol is the only protection against corrosion available with a pH of 7 Patents have already been awarded in the USA, Japan, Great Britain, France, Switzerland and Germany. Further patents are in progress. The German Patent Office recognizes that "technically, Rustisol is a major improvement on all acid-based rust converters". |

Forget rust treatment, forget a grinder even. The only way to get rid of rust is to cut it out. |

Yes that I can understand that. What I need is a plan to stop it from causing anymore damage till next September/August when I should have the money for it to go into a bodyshop and have it completely treated and resprayed. I just don't want it to eat the car any more or very little till then ![]() Anyway onto pictures of said rust. Its worse then I thought it was. I poked it to find out how much of the metal was worthless. So the metal that is still there is very hardy as I pressed it quite hard. Same with the drivers side but thats not to the hole stage yet. Strangely the metal under the rubber pretty good ![]() Passenger Door, this one is the worst on the whole car ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Drivers door (Just found this bugger! not muched the metal yet though) ![]() Drivers front wheel arch (hasn't eaten through other side of arch is pretty clean) ![]() For rust I'm lucky and thats pretty much it bar a bubble on the arch. Anyway I need a way to plug the hole in the passenger door to stop water getting into the bodywork! Would silicone (like the stuff used in a bathroom) work as a short term water stopper? Like I said I'm looking to prevent it from getting any worse before it goes into a bodyshop next year. |

I'm actually planing on stopping at a local bodyshop that always seems busy and they are approved by VW, Audi, Seat and Skoda so they should be good, if a bit expensive. Just hope I can afford to get just the 2 door bits done. Those are the most worrying and worst. |

yeah I most likely will as I don't have a lot of money to throw around. Doesn't help most places see females as walking pay cheques. I'm also going to go and try and clean it up a bit and fill the hole. Been researching a lot lately and have an idea how I'm going to do it for the short term (so no more water gets into that hole like tonight after the rain ![]() Think I'll have to get the rust patches done gradually (as I can afford them) to halt it for good. |

i think you may be horrified on how much a profesional body shop will want to charge for the repairs especially if you are considdering a respray compared to the value of the car. problem is with a Fiesta of this age you will always be chasing the rust. If you do one sill this year, next year the otherside might go. Also considder local corner shop type body welder/repaires for a price they may do a cover sill and a coat of paint for a couple hundred pounds which will last couple of years or a profesional job at a grand which will last 5! |

Shame you not further up north, I know an amazing bodyshop who don't charge much, did an excellent job on the C3 before we sold it. |

yes the seal will be the thing that will need to be done, you maybe able to get a mobile welder if so maybe able to get some one to take the crap off before also a metal jig saw blade and a spot weld drill bit will help ... and a grinder too the tools are not much ... i had a loot under my car when it was on a ramp found a rust ploblem so i put some rust stuff on it and i will under seal later .. |

Well I had the rubber off both the doors today. Glad I did the drivers side was hiding a nasty one ![]() Had to pull off the black protector strip that sits there to get at it. Sanded it back to clean metal, treated the whole area with Kurust after. Let that soak and dry. I brought some body filler for now, just to plug the holes that did develop on all 3 patches (this is just the door bits) Allowed that to dry and set. Sanded it back down and painted it with anti rust primer. Its covered with a sheet at the moment to stop it getting wet. Tomorrow I'm going to put another layer off that, cover it up till monday morning when I'll put the red primer on it to colour it again. The seals under the car still feel solid. I've gone along them and wobbled the length of them with my fingers. Thats one of the reasons I got this one, seals have never been welded and still feel solid. Bodywork isn't so brilliant though ![]() Anyway some pictures from the progress today. Forgot to get any of it sanded down to metal. It looked so shiny ![]() These are just off the passenger side. I'll get some pictures of the other door tomorrow. In filler ![]() ![]() With primer ![]() This took hours ![]() Tomorrow going to go and buy some better sandpaper. Sand it down more and prime it again before work. |

Yes I was going to go fiberglass if this fell through. My brother did suggest this after I'd brought the goody bag of stuff for this. I have my paint already I have used it for the bumpers to cover some scratches from the previous owner so got that bit covered. Only reason this primer is grey is due to it being Hammerite anti rust primer. I have the base red primer required for my Nouveau Red and the lacquer to top coat it all on Wednesday once all coats have had 24 hours. Thats if it goes to plan. |
