Well typically having the Fiesta back on the road i've encountered my first problem..

Problem:

When setting out in the morning when you dip the clutch for junctions the rev's will plummet and either struggle around 500rpm or stall completely. It can be saved by a blip of the accelerator mid-braking :lolz: . After it's warmed up abit it doesn't do it at all.

This was happening prior to taking it off the road in december; since then i have bought a brand new ford ISCV and fitted with new gasket. Although the problem seems to have improved (slightly) it hasn't solved it.

What do i look at next? I have thought it may be slightly underpowered too (my rr shown no increase from 2008 - 2009 despite adding performance cams :hmm:) - Yes, the engine doesn't respond well to tuning, but surely it must respond in some form (i.e. 1bhp :lol: ).

So what do i look for next?

Problem 2:

I have a very annoying squeak (sounds like a bird garden under my bonnet). It isn't mega loud but it is slowly getting louder. It's coming from cam/aux belt area...anyone got any ideas? Sounds like moisure on the belt but it was even doing it in my dads garage when dry.....

my fez use to do a similar thing, but even when warm it did the same, i replced the lambda sensor and it stopped stalling when the rev's dropped

you had it on a diagnostic machine? see if and faults show up

as for the squeak imo it sounds like your idler pulley or the tensioner pulley, i have the same on my current fez and its the idler pulley, it goes once soaked in WD40, try doing that too yours see which one stops squeaking with a good soaking :thumbsup:

MAF sensor for the stalling, mine does it because the wires to it are broke and keep snapping

Terry you legend :whistle: ...well so far anyway!
I've sprayed a load of WD40 on the pulley next to the waterpump (as you look down between chasis leg and engine). This seems to have stopped the squeaking...almost immediately..
I'll have to see if it's still quiet tommorrow morning, hopefully so easy fixes are always good.

as for the stalling problem, i've not considered diagnostics but i think i may be looking into that route shortly....i've shortlisted a few things i could be but i don't hold out much hope:

- Air leak (rev's are spot on after it stalls once though...)
- Breather hose blocked (would it make it stall though...i doubt it..?)
- TPS
- MAF

with an air leak i'd expect the rev's to rise, try getting some carb cleaner and spray it around the inlet with the car running see if that affects the idle at all

might be the maf, but never had those symtoms with the rev's when mine was knackered,but then again mine did seem to not want to rev past 4k when mine needed a clean/was knackered

not sure about the breather, the only breather i know about that affects the running of the car is the pipe that runs under the coil pack, the pipe always tend to perish on pipe that goes from under the coil pack to the head, might be worth a little look

you got a spare TPS you could try? if not pm me your address i have a few spares in my shed i'll send one up to you so you can try it out :D

same with the maf, if you dont have a spare to try i have one of those too :D

but i'd seriously look into a diagnostic session, before you start spending any money on parts :thumbsup:

Not got a spare TPS or MAF.....
Have you had a diagnostic session before? Are the results accurate? How much did it cost? Is there any equipment you can buy to do it yourself?
lol, sorry about the volume of questions, but it's never occurred to me, but it's a good idea.

Sticky valves wouldn't cause it would it???
As for the belt squeak...it's returned this morning. it goes off after about 10miles though. Odd.

i have had a session before, i had my Si plugged in to see if we could work out why it was such a pig when it got hot etc, it tests everything near enough and the results were pretty accurate, it didn't show up any faults on mine, but said it was running lean, or show'd and indication there was something amiss with the fueling

so thats when i went back checked the timing and found it to be nearly 2 teeth out

its cost me nothing as my mate did it for me :halo: :lol: , but i was told that it can cost from £35+ :look: , but imo that £35 could save you having to buy other parts costing alot more

not thought about the valves, not really sure on that one either, what grade oil do you use?

yeah same with mine, it comes and goes, but when its squeaking i just want to beat it shitless sooo annoying!

Terry,
Have you got a spare temp sensor?
The reason i ask- is there a possiblity the tempt sensor is faulty; it thinks its warm when it's actually cold (meaning not enough fuel) or something like that? Might also be the reason why my temp gauge never comes off the white cold bit on the gauge?
1 other thing i want to try is ECU reset..i'll try this first and if no joy i'll be back.

do you mean the ecu temp sensor on top of the thermostat? as there are 2, the top one does the ecu and the bottom one on the stat does the gauges

whe the temp sensor goes it usually causes it to over fuel like mad, not heard of it causing it to under fuel, i shall go have a check for you tho as i'm pretty sure i do have a spare :D

Having thought about it, could it be over fuelling rather than under fuelling? It was WORSE when the superchip was in...hmmm
i tried unplugging the MAF for a journey and it stalled everytime clutch dipped. That test didn't really serve me to well lol
I'm going to reset ECU, see how that goes, doubt it'll change much though.

i think if it was over fueling you'd have trouble starting it as it might flood the engine and when running it would pop and bang and you'd have a strong smell of fuel out the exhaust, got any of that?

when i unplugged my MAF on my fez it made next to no difference to the way it ran :lolz:

it does pop and bang a little..i put it down to the cams/head though....
funny you say the smell of petrol i did notice a strong smell of petrol a minute ago - i've just re-set ECU and quickly turned it on to make sure it was all ok, i was sat with my door open half in/half out of the car and it did smell.
it has flooded on a couple of ocassions usually when i've moved in 5yards or something....

Small update on this
tryed resetting ECU - since doing this it hasn't stalled but it's still not that convincing:

Now as i pull upto the first junction (300 yards from pulling off, first thing in the morning) as i dip the clutch the revs dip down to around 750/800rpm before flicking back up to 1000rpm, before settling at 900rpm.
After this one stint every morning it will just drop down to 900rpm without any fannying around .
So it's similar, but not nearly as severe as before.


As it isn't major i'm not too worried now...i'll be keeping an eye on it.

Right...
Having had a long weekend on the car i've ruled out the following:
Symtoms: Idle's hunt (between 800rpm to 1200rpm) on startup, and rev's dip / stall at first junction or so. Symtoms completely disappear when warm.
I've done some google research and i'm wondering if anyone has ever had problems with the PCV Valve?
It's new to me but it's 'positive crankcase ventilation' valve (and hose).
I could do with a picutre of where it is because this is related to the idles hunting.......

So far:
- New iscv
- Cleaned MAF
- Clean temp sensors
- Fairly new o2

that black thing behing the exhaust manifold.which is plumbed into the inlet sandwich plate.....normally a blocked PCV system will show up in other ways...like smoke and oil usage as the crankcase pressure pushes the oil past the rings in severe cases. if its hunting is it sucking air in from somewhere?...not the inlet temp sensor dicking about is it?

when it's hunting it seems to drop down to 800/700rpm, realise it's too low and rev back up to conteract it from stalling... or thats how it seems...then when it tries to find 900rpm again it drops back down 800 and up again.

Could this be ignition related? or specifically, coilpack?
I keep ruling things out but in reality it could well be bloody anything :banghead: To make things worse it's being put into second place of jobs to do. The boot has started letting loads of water in. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
