hi folks.
friend came to me in college yesterday and told me his fez wasnt starting properly! he knows im pretty big on my fez and wondered if i knew the problem. so we went and had a look and i know from seeing it on here that the little red light flashing near the clock is to do with the immobilizer and the fact that it wasnt ticking over, but you could only hear the fuel injector.

eventually started when the day finished but it seems to be on and off. im guessing its the sensor in the steering column but i just wana know if any1 know the definate diagnosis and how to fix it?

he told me he was going to join the site but i thought id post this for him anyway!

what fez has he got?

does sound like the pats system playing up,have you check that the sensor hasn't been knocked off(remove the lower cowling to check)? only way to sort it would be to source anotther sesnsor that goes around the ignition barrel and get the corrosponding red chip for the key

mk5 zetec 1.25 i think.
i will check but if it had been knocked off would it still start? because it still starts from time to time...

Just to clarify, as much as people will tell you otherwise, the sensor round the ignition barrel isn't coded to the key, so you don't have to mess about changing red chips if it has indeed gone faulty
