Hi guys, new to all this, as just found this site!

Ok heres my problem. Ive had a new starter, mass airflow meter, done in the last month, just had the alternator done today.. he started up fantastic drove like a dream. came home sat on the drive turned the ignition on and off a few times he was fine. then I turned the key i can hear the fuel pump whirl ive got ignition lights but the engine wont turn over.. ive tried it 3 or 4 times and nothing.. is it worth me bypassing the ignition putting a jump lead from the battery to the starter to see if he starts just to rule out my new starter isnt a dud (hopefully it wont fry anything)

in the week got up at stupid o'clock and he did the same thing but after 10mins he started!! ive put a volt meter on the starter got 12v.. please help guys, confused.com springs to mind..

Does your starter motor make a clicking noise? Or nothing.

is there a red light flashing on the clock

no noise nothing all i can hear is the relay cutting in and out, and the fuel pump turning.

im sure there is a red light flashing im just gonna go out in a minute and check as its dark now..

Ok. Well i could say that if it was ticking, it's the battery, as mine is doing that because my battery is knackered.
Might be a bad earth on the starter motor.

oh right even if its a brand spanking new one! how do i go about sorting that? sorry such a novice!

brought a new battery just before crimbo as i thought it was that too..

Yeah try that... and try the connections on the starter and alternator. Make sure they are tight and no corrosion

Oh yeah.. if you try that don't forget to put your egnition on for the immobilizer and fuel pump. Otherwise it will just turn and turn and turn and do nothing... that's if the starter motor works or not.

ive got ignition lights every thing on the dash works, but the starter wont turn..

whats the deal with the flashing light under the clock??

Your pats system might be faulty or your key. Try the master one if you have it.

when I brought the car the only key I got was the one with the red bit on it?? oh right the immobilizer anyway of getting rid or overriding the immobilizer? that might get rid of the problem? mmmmm oh whats a pats system?? erh sorry..

I don't think there is a way of overriding it. And the pats system is a little box under your glovebox that controls the immobiliser or something. If you wait a bit one of the more experienced members of this site might be able to suggest something.

just looked at the haynes with the pats system it states the starter will still turn but the engine wont start..

mmm thinking about it if you could override it then all the joyriders would be stealing our motors.. mmm

sounds like the battery, are all the connections clean and tight? try whacking it on charge overnight and see if it helps!!

nah not in the ticking club.. on my second new battery both batts reading 12v.. im thinking its now a key and chip problem.. have you guys heard of this before????

DOES THE RED LIGHT UNDER THE CLOCK GO OUT OR DOES IT KEEP FLASHING WHEN THE KEY IS IN THE IGNITION

the key goes in the ignition the red light under the clock stays on for 5 ish secs then goes out.. doesnt flash.. turn the key and nothing!! its so wierd.. thinking its gotta be a immobilizer problem cause the fuel motor whirls and nothing else happens..

dont think it could be immobiliser as the immobiliser light goes out take the bottom cowling of and make sure there is a black plastic bit that goes round the barrel is not broke as mine is broke and i have to make sure it has not been pushed towards the steering collom as it is to far away from reading my chip so it immobilisers it self but my light was flashing to let me no
