im having trouble putting it into second gear from 3rd, it goes in ok from 1st gear to second but when i wanna change down i have to wait for the revs to drop right down wich means im coasting a few seconds before i can slip it in, it will go in ,but clunks in if the revs are up high, it sounds like a misaligned clutch to me but want a second opinion,, cheers

sounds more like the syncos or selector forks

ill change the oil in the gearbox first and see if that helps. cba to strip gearbox down the see if the syncros hav worn, could it be a selector fork on just the down change?

it couls also be a sloppy gear linkage as mk3's dont have the best linkages

try an oil change...but that sounds more like shagged syncros. as going up the box is always alot easier for them to do even when worn than going the other way.

mines like that to, its got movement in the gear stick. how easy is it to change the gearlinkage? looks strait forward to me. sounds like the 2.0l conversion will have to wait and new box is in order!!. i presume theres a few boxes that will be good for the 1.6si 94

Bump, I've bought the car now, and need to get this linkage sorted...there's a hell of alot of play in the gearstick itself, it twists one way about 15 degrees or so lol, so how easy is it to swap the linkage?
