my mums 5 series (m reg petrol) was fine until this morning when my stepdad revved fuck out of it to get it warm, the heater is now blowing cold air and the car is overheating, am i looking at water pump or thermostat? if the later how can yoiu tell if a water pump is knackered? thanks. ![]() |

water pump would be leaking coolant mate i belive |

I would personally go with the thermostat fella. Sounds like its staying shut. Cheap, easy fix ![]() Water pumps only leak if the bearings fail, they can break up internally (fins break) and you wouldnt get a leak at all, just no coolant circulating. But as i said, do the thermostat, then if that doesnt work, water pump it is! |

stat it was. horrible car to work on, silly viscous fan in the way that took 2 special tools to remove. pain in the arris to bleed n'all. thanks guys. |
