I own a mrk3.5 fiesta with a 2ltr zetec engine - When I bought the car I had to get the gear box and clutch replaced 2wks after owning the car The gear box was made for me by using a diesel casing and internal parts from my old gear box - now i've been told the gear box should be bullet proof now but I was also told that the clutch that was fitted ( a diesel clutch ) would'nt last very long - well guess what he was right only 2k miles I got out of it before it went BOOM and i've not driven the car since which has been 6months+ So what clutch am I best getting so this problem wont happen again ? and where can I get it from and at what price ? |

You have been fed BS mate. ALL the boxes used on Fiesta's and Escorts (using the zetec/cvh/hcs engines) are exactly the same apart from the ratios. Non are stronger than the other, wether its petrol or diesel. The only different one if the ERST S2 box with LSD, but then thats exactly the same apart from having the LSD fitted. Again, Diesel clutch should easily withstand a 2.0ltr zetec unless your launching it hard like a tit. All the zetec / diesel / cvh clutches are the same strength standard. You can use an RST one, a zetec on, or a 1.8D clutch and they are exactly the same. If you really want to, fit a paddle clutch which is a good £300 worth and enjoy the pain of changing gear in traffic. Personally just fit a new zetec/rst/diesel clutch and dont launch it all the time. £60-70 worth of stuff there. Black diamond ones arent much stronger. |

be interesting to see whats happened to the clutch, mine got through two within 1000miles, first one was broken when i brought it with centre ripped out ![]() second one was a cheep ebay LUK kit one £45ish and the friction material came adrift two track days later ![]() after laying on a wet drive twice in a month changing clutches ended up getting a Helix race clutct at£300!! been good for 7 track days since. but i would think for gereral road use there is something stronger than a cheap one and cheaper than a race one |

LUK? thats not a cheap clutch. LUK/SACHS/VALEO are all good (if you don't know they supply to most car manufacturers) HOWEVER they are not designed to be launched, ragged around/track days so will break. wills pic with centre plate ripped apart, looks like its been launched. |
