my si (1.6) has a problem, when im in either 1st or 2nd from setting off its as though the gears are slipping. its only when the car has more pull (hence lower gears). my first guess is the clutch but it feels normal to push and goes in fine. there is just lack of power. the problem just seems to be getting worse. any ideas? ![]() |

Does the clutch slip? If not, i would say its more likely to be a sensor, maf is a good place to start, give it a clean and see what happens ![]() |

the engine runs fine, its just when i accelerate it as though all the engine power is goin no use. i can hear a strange sound as though it might be slipping. i havent experienced a slipping clutch before so i dont know the symptoms. if you describe a few things as to what it feels like i could tell you, cheers ![]() |

if you accerlerate do the revs go up alot quicker and the car isnt going to what it usally does to the revs so floor it and if revs go round quicker but doesnt go any quicker then the clutch is slipping |

Yeah sounds like clutch slipping. To test it there are a few ways. While stationary, put the handbrake on, put the car in 4th, bring the revs upto say 3,000 rpm, then let the clutch out slowly, it will either, grip which will make the back end of the car dip down, revs will drop and it will get to a point where it wants to stall, or, the revs will either stay, or inscrease with the clutch coming up.. if they do that, its a good indication of it slipping. Also, when going down the road, put it in say 4th and floor it, the revs will probably inscrese but you will gain little speed.. that will be the clutch slipping too. It will mean it needs a new clutch yeah. |

could i put a clutch from a 2 litre mondeo innit and run it on the 1.6, im planning on havin the 2 litre conversion done in the future so it makes sense to get a clutch to handle the extra power now rather than replacing it twice. |

You need a fiesta clutch still, if you plan a later 2.0 it may be worth going for an uprated one like a black diamond clutch. |
