how hard is it to remove the rear wing (or rear panel I'm not sure what you call em lol) from a fiesta mk3 or Si? and how would you go about stripping back the paint so it can have a fresh paint job on the wing?

I've decided to attempt to do a few bits myself as I've helped my dad prime/spray and lacquer his wing mirror piece for his Saab (as he thought 200 for a bit of plastic was ridiculous) So thought that I could give it a go on a wing (maybe do a test run on my old fiesta wing from the 1.1 first) but I've never removed pieces from a car.

Just wondering if anyone could offer any advice or a clear leave it to the professionals :lolz:

if its not rotten leave it on the car! to pick a rear 1/4 panel off is alot of work. and you cant paint it off the car and then hang it back on. it has to be spot welded back on then painted. putting it back on is achieved either by pooling (making a pool of molten metal on the join) the metal or by use of a proper spot welder. obviously youll have to fix any rot you find before putting it back together....

as for stripping it. paint stripper or a D/A (dual action) sander and gradually go up the grit grades till you have a bare smooth finish. and go from there.

just beware. what lies beneath the paint might not be pretty. its not a job that you cant do at home. but without a fair few tools and good knowledge of cars, body panels and welding. its easier to pay someone to do it ;)

hope that helps.
Jam.

yeah it does. Its mainly just the 2 patches of mismatched paint over the rear wheel arches which have been bugging me a hell of a lot.
I suppose I'll leave it to a pro as my dad has said he has done his fair share of messing with his sierra/escort/cavalier when he was younger and doesn't want to start another project like those now.
Bloody stone chips are peeing me off now as well. My bumper looks like a teenagers face
