Hi guys girls and others. i am planning on fitting some weber twin 40's to the fiesta for the summer. i currently have the carbs and manifold, fuel pressure regulator, lots of fuel pipe etc.. but i havent yet been able to fork out the cash for the ignition management. i was wondering, will i be able to run the carbs on the current rs1800 management, i know it will run in severe limp mode, but as long as it will run well enough for me to decide if the carbs are working okay. once i know the carbs are worth it i wont mind forking out the £200 for the megajolt management in theory, it should run okay. (may not with the desired ignition timing curve) has anyone tried this? with webers? or bike carbs? or similar? obviously i'll be taking the whole inlet manifold off and only leaving the crank position sensor and other ignition related wires. The carbs need to be jetted the suite the engine. i've had a few suggestions from pierce manifolds i popped down to Burton power and he basically said scrap the 40's you need 45's but i've read elsewhere people using 40's with around 150bhp |

i have 40s on mine mate and it is running standard management and run fine for me its still quick enough for me and the person who had my car before got 152 bhp aswell so 150 is about right what he said |

kool, thanks for the pics, funny enough i found them vids on youtuuuube a few days ago, i was showing a friend of mine. i still cant imagine why the guy at Burton power said they wont be suitable for an rs1800 engine, maybe he thought i was going to run a single carb?? if you could find out the jets that would be awesome. I've gotta strip the carbs and rebuild them as all the rubbers and gaskets have gone brittle. ![]() |

no idea why he said that havent a clue i will try and find out get the boss to find out at work lol should be a new video soon on youtube of the rev limiter and launch control and then one of it driving down the road i have got one driving on the road but it leaves my house go for a thrash round then pull up at my house again lol just keep in mind how much fuel it will use as you will be getting around 100 miles to a tank once they are fitted |

pfft me neither, yeah any info would be good post your vids when there up ![]() yeah i understand fuel consumption is gonna be pretty bad, especially if i cane it about everywhere maybe i'll carry some smaller jets for going on long missions lol. |

100 miles per tank is pretty extreme, if carbs are set up well you can expect to see 26-30mpg of course fuel economy comes at the expense of performance with carbs (so i believe) |

yeah the leaner you run them the better petrol and there for better mpg but less perfromance to be honest i really cant see you getting near 25mpg but someone else could say more |

my car currently does 24mpg so if i can achieve that on motorway driving I'd be happy ![]() so are you still running your carbs on ford eec management? (i.e the standard ecu) did you say it was running about 150bhp? or was that with some other management? |

yeah im happy with it mate pulls really well in any gear only thing i would advise is a rev limiter i have just fitted one as when you miss a gear will carry on going and gone though 2 engine from that the person before me had it done and got 152bhp and the vid on youtube i did drive it down the street and back up yeah just to test it out would of liked to go on a big drive but no tax and insurance stoped that ![]() |

Hi guys, its been a while since i visited this thread. firstly, my twin 40 webers did run using the standard rs1800 management however when i had the syncro gauges attached they all said the ignition timing was not advanced enough. the carbs i had run okay but were running to small chokes (32mm) and to big ventries (6) so i had loads of torque at the bottom end but couldnt rev past 4000rpm, it was iritating because ther was loads of power there but not enough air flow anywho, i blew my rs1800 engine up, well not really blew it up, but destroyed it internally part of my throttle linkage dropped into the carb at about 3000rpm wedged the valve open, there was no compressions in the cylinder and as a result the piston came up, smacked the cylinder head, buckling it, broke the inlet valves and smooshed the spark plug. running filters is essential even just for a test run as i have now discovered. this major setback has resulted in the scrappage of the twin40 plan for my car, the rs1800 engine has been replaced with an escort GTI engine with rs1800 cams inlet and ecu (so the difference is only mild) the carbs and everything else needed is now on ebay for sale carbs http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0451568615 manifold http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0451568299 some little v stacks http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0451569604 fuel pressure regulator http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0451578670 emulsion tubes http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0451544040 if i hadnt wrecked the engine then i would definatly have finnished the converison and had the proper chokes and ventries fitted as the noise was awesome |
