I want to buy an SI as a project for during the next three years, I will be working as a service apprentice or going to college to do a three year technical so this is just for experience and a bit of fun really :D

I've found one not to far away but its arches are terrible and it has no MOT so who knows what is wrong with it underneath. I will be fitting a new engine in the three years anyway so my main question is how much will the arches cost to be re-done, and is it worth it or shall I keep looking.

Am awaiting a pic of the arches but from what I have seen the arches have rusted away to the point where it looks like the car has been lifted a few inches and the arch flare doesn't exist.

How much are new arches on an SI and how hard are they to fit, and are the panels set into the body or would the repair include having to cut out and weld in a section?

Sorry there's no pic.

O and if anybody wants to sell me a cheap SI :halo:

I wouldn't. Too much time spent welding it up and it's not worth a great deal at the end anyways. A mint Si would be lucky to fetch £1k. You need something with a badge so even if it costs you an arm and a leg at the end of it, some snob will buy it because it's a 'such and such'. Ford fanboys love an RS badge. Buy one of those.

Check out Tillers post on his sub £200 RS2000 4x4.
