hi

my fiesta si was tutting out the exhuast and the garage said exhaust valve so i sent it in a few days ago....only to find out it had 4 valves nackerd so they changed them all and fitted all new gaskets, cambelt, everything for the work to be done.... 170 parts 200 labour

total £370 for the job

but now the exhuast evry now and then tuts again.....

and the perfomance is not as good as when i go to speed up it judders for a sec and then goes.....

also the is a little ticking noise near the back of the engine near the efi manifold(were it connects to the engine)

also there is a weird blowing(hissing,) around the bottom near the starter motor( bottom of the cambelt) area when i let go off the throttle after i rev it up....

not worried bout the blowing as it doesnt seem to affect the car
but the tutting is taking the p*ss

its had new coil, new plugs, new sparks, 4 new valves, new gaskets everywhere execpt the inlet manifold, new cambelt

any ideas thanks

Maaaate, that was expensive. £300 to expensive, you got slightly conned,
i bought a Haynes manual and rebuilt the head my self after a cam belt snap incident.
£50 for a head
£15 for valves off ebay
£7 for complete gasket set
£4 for gates powergrip cam belt
+ 1 morning

should have done a compression and leakdown test before getting the work done.
the garage might have miss diagnosed exhaust valves cause they know they can charge mega bucks.
buy a Haynes, manual and fix the car your self next time,
you'll learn lots, the mk3 fiesta is perfect for DIY mechanics

but back to your problem

Ticking near the back of the engine could be injectors, most zetecs i've fiddled with have ticking injectors.
is it a fast ticking of slow ticking?
its probably not the main cause of your problems

take the plugs out and re-gap them, if they are the wrong setting it will cost you a little performance.

what do you mean by tuttin out the exhaust? tutting as in popping and burbling or mis fire?

the blowing? perhaps the down pipe is damaged. of lambda sensor is leaking?

the more information you can put down here the more we can help

hi fellas

my car seems to be in a mind of its own

sumtimes i start it and it runs fine but continous burbling
other times i start it and it burbles all the time and pops once every 3-5 seconds out the exhaust

also the ticking at the back of the engine is fast (and yer seems like its from the injectors)
could that effect the car at all

so could all you very helpfull chaps try and explain why my car seems to sumtimes pop out the exhaust and sumtimes it doesnt on idle...it makes my car judda on low revs through out the gears....

also wot does TPS,ICVS mean

a friend of mine said ass the exhuast valves were bad fuel would have gone into the CAT and that will cause it to be a dodgy runner...

my fan always comes on and off as the engine heats up to the o on the norm bar

thanks for all help

Hrm, car having a mind of its own, sounds familiar lol,
My old engine was sometimes temperamental popping on occasions and having "off" days.
when i had a leaking exhaust it burbled allot especially on down shifting.
it had a faulty maf so i replaced it with one from the scrap yard.

just so we know is it a 1.6 or a 1.4 (i am less familiar with the 1.4)

The popping could be due to a small leak in the exhaust allowing unburnt fuel to ignite in the pipe create a pop.
perhaps one of your temperature sensors isn't working properly and the ecu is leaving the "auto choke" on making the engine run rich.

first thing to do is check and clean the maf as it seems to be the number 1 cause of problems

The TPS is the throttle positions sensor, its the little black box type thing on the side of the throttle body that tells the ecu roughly how much the throttle is open. mine failed recently causing a massive flat spot at 4000 revs and very strong fuel smell and big pops and bangs between gears.

the ICVS is the idle control valve solenoid (i think). its the little cylinder bit under the throttle body to the left on the manifold above the injectors, sometimes the little valve that the solenoid opens and closes gets clogged with crap and get stuck, there is a guide somewhere on here how to take it off and clean it. you will need to get a gasket when you take it off (or use a bit of cornflake box)

the injectors do tick on the zetec nothing to worry about there, unless its unusually loud and doesnt sound like its meant to be lol.

looked at the plugs and thought i would inspect the white around the plug
found out 1 was craked

that was the whole problem for the deadly misfire

cheers for all help
